Wow. That's stunning. Love stained wood trim. White is fine but sometimes I think it's a snidge overrated. I've lived with both � a lot of stained and a lot of glossy white. Each have a special aesthetic appeal. Deconstructed, flat out - your woodwork is orange. And it's from that color p.o.v. that you should choose all other color harmonies. Brown technically defined is dark orange. At one time that stain color was probably darker and brown-er and what you see now is a a type of patina. Don't ever mess with that patina because it doesn't come in a can. Based on everything you said, I'd steer you toward full spectrum paint colors for the whole house. Top two reasons: modulated quality of light because there are real rooms not an open floor plan and original stain. If you go with 'regular paint', be mindful to choose complex colors or a.k.a. tertiary colors. Tertiary colors are found as you move toward center on a color wheel. They come from a mix of 3 (tertiary). Reason is I'd want to partner the wood's patina with a worthy, complex wall color.

I have both Blonde and Ivoire in parts of my house and ended up using Navajo White (the top color on the Blonde strip) on the ceiling. It reads white, but is nice and warm. It is so chameleon, I used it on every one of my ceilings throughout the house.

All the trim and all the ceilings in our house are natural cypress. Our floors are wide t&g pine with a bit of stain to mimic older wood. There are no white walls here. Personally, I always feel like white walls with wood trim looks a little cold. I see it all the time, so it must appeal to others more than it does to me. YMMV. In our house, we have the following wall colors paired with the wood: foyer, hallways, study: Moonshine (Eddie Bauer color from Olympic) living room: Billiard Green (Olympic) kitchen & dining room: Blue (Ben Moore) master bedroom: Barn Red (SW) guest bedroom: La Fonda Antique Red (Olympic Historic series) son's bedroom: La Fonda Deep Blue (Olympic Historic series) IME, greens, reds and blues work very well with pine/cypress. Beige, cream, yellow and taupe are all rather tricky but not impossible. The Moonshine we have in the foyer is a very pale creamy yellow that just glows. It does very well with the woodwork, as well as serving as a buffer color between some of the other more dramatic hues.

I think the reason that people are simplifying the problem is because we think that you control the variables. If someone else is bent on keeping the trim how it is, that's different. I suspect you've probably already made the same arguments to them as we are making to you! So, given that trim is a fixed constraint, here are some mock-ups with navy + grey or brown or beige: I actually like how the brown makes the trim/door disappear. But I would probably pair it with a cream and use the navy as a minor accent rather than a full wall.
