It might be easier to offer concrete suggestions if you posted pics of what you have. There are literally thousands upon thousands of casual dining room mirrors. You could use a mirror with a black iron frame to repeat the light fixture, or use leather, wood, rope, or a painted frame for a casual look. You could easily make a mirror using a large old picture frame or window and have your local glass company install glass to fit. It's surprisingly inexpensive to do so. Hmm...yes..I think that particular teal is on the cooler side. I did like another lamp shade which is lighter and more greenish. Many of you mentioned that the mirror looked small in the space, so I went ahead and removed one of the bookshelves. It looks a little different now : I added a aquamarine lamp, a sculpture on the bookshelf and tall plants on either side. I really like plants and was planning to get indoor fruits trees and this might be the right spot for them. Thoughts? Cooks.

No mirror. You have nothing to reflect of any interest. And nobody wants to watch themselves eat. OTOH--Thank you for posting a well-lit photo. You'd be surprised how seldom that happens. But, now, put a dimmer on those things! That's one well-lit room. If that were my house, I would really want some visual separation between the Dining Room and both the Living Room and Kitchen. That's way too open for me. And I'd need some covering on that window. And I'd need some covering on that window; that blackness at night creeps me out.

Nancy, I love both the sideboard and the mirror--gorgeous furnishings--but they don't seem right together. The tall mirror seems more suited for a hallway, above a narrower table, where that height is appreciated while standing. In this room, the mirror looks too tall and narrow for the wider chest; and the lamps add to that sense of being tall and narrow. As this looks to be a dining room, where people would be seated, I would try a lower, horizontal piece of art over the chest, which can be appreciated while dining. Once you find a piece of art, then bring in smaller side lights or other decorative items as accents.
