I like the pic with the lamps and artwork - no vases.

I agree with Allison. I think the mirror is too small and would prefer to see one large piece of art (canvas or framed) in the space instead, flanked by your lamps and maybe one large item (like a long, shallow bowl?) between them on the console. I too would remove the items that are currently displayed on the windowsills. In this sleek space, less is more.

I agree with the others ... I immediately thought it was too small for that space.

If you want to keep the mirror above the bookcase, I would do something like you have in the second photo, but use much taller lamps.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. So this is what I will do or something similar. Replace the mirror and remove the nick-nacks from the small windows.

My next question will be, where can I put this mirror. Most of the walls in my open floor plan space are large walls. How would the mirror look here instead of the painting. The length of the painting is the same as the diameter of the mirror. The mirror would be looking out towards the kitchen, which would be nice to look at while I am cooking.

Or I can replace the other small painting with the mirror.

Any suggestions /thoughts?

I like it best in the first picture, facing the kitchen ... it looks too big for the second spot.

My 2 cents: I like the 2nd idea in the initial post, but w/o artwork & really like the lamps, but don't think the teal works w/ the warm shades of the mirror frame. I would use shades in a dark red/wine or other warm tone.

Hmm...yes..I think that particular teal is on the cooler side. I did like another lamp shade which is lighter and more greenish.

Many of you mentioned that the mirror looked small in the space, so I went ahead and removed one of the bookshelves. It looks a little different now :

I added a aquamarine lamp, a sculpture on the bookshelf and tall plants on either side. I really like plants and was planning to get indoor fruits trees and this might be the right spot for them.

Thanks kipper, I do love those lamps!. However, I have always preferred lamp shades with color, won't the neutral color shades blend in with the walls. Also this table lamp will be non functional, only for decorative purposes. I don't think I will ever turn it on :) . Now that I just typed that, I realized I could put something else instead of a lamp. Ahhh...the possibilities are the endless!

These are colors I imagined:

Oh wow!, these are lovely. Will definitely look into similar colors and see how they go with the room. I do like warm colors, even though the room has a lot of warm colors with the rust curtains, orange chairs, rust placemats and brown table. I think I will use the large artwork to incorporate the complementary cooler colors on the opposite wall.

Finally I think I can see this room come together...I really like that feeling,

I would still suggest that you move the small items from the windows, and try placing the clock a few inches higher so there's some space between it and the items on the bookcase. That would probably also make it look better in relation to the windows.

@ ingrid_vc, yes will be removing the trinkets from the window. Oh ok, I thought you meant the mirror needs to be lower from your previous post. So you mean moving the mirror just a little bit higher than it is right now. Will try to do that online and see what it looks like.
