I totally agree also. It took Collenoz' post for me to figure out who Elmer was referring to, but it is true, from little local people trying to drum up business for their friends on up, use your own good sense before buying.

Beware! Some unethical chiropractors are publishing misleading information stating that spinal adjustments can boost immunity and decrease the risk of contracting COVID-19.

The American Chiropractic Association addresses the misleading info at their website/blog.

the "best medicine": get enough rest, eat well, exercise to boost immune system, get outside in your yard or front stoop etc..when able (take precautions of course), social distancing, stay home as much as possible, don't overload yourself with constant COVID-19 info, try to shop for at least a week if not 2.

i am sure there are others, but this is what my family tries to acheive everyday.

For me, describing a chiropractor as unethical is redundant.

The vast majority of the "healing" they practice has no basis in fact or medical science, most of them know it, but they continue to do what they do anyway and charge for it.

Hopefully people will take this same advice in regards to a certain computer geek who is now an expert on vaccines. Having a lot of money doesn't make you a dr or a scientist.

I've taken immune support gummies during the cold and flu season for over a decade. 80 mg vitamin C with Zinc, Echinacea, vitamin A and E. I usually eat one 3 or 4 times a week. The suggested dose is 3 per day.

I know this is anecdotal but I haven't had the flu since 2005 and if I do get a cold it is mild and goes away in a few days to a week rather than hanging on for 2 or 3 weeks like they use to.

And they taste good!

I take supplements too. After I saw how well they did for horses...I say why not. No....I don't take the same ones that the horses are given. Recently had a complete physical and blood work up. I told the doctor, I take supplements. He brushed me off. Okay. The results came back and to say he was impressed is to put it mildly. I also don't get sick...haven't had a flu shot since 1963...and I have lots of energy. For someone my age, 73, I am able to work outside all day. Of course diet is very important, but sometimes I like to eat junk. If you don't want to take them....cool. If you do....that is a person's perogative.

Absolutely. My point though was not to try to take away choice. My point is that some advertising is false advertising; use your common sense when it comes to COVID, and products implying life saving qualities.

Supplements have no 'science' behind them. They may or may not contain what they claim. They often contain too little of any active ingredient to make an appreciable difference. (That's one way the manufacturers avoid being held responsible for claims that their product harmed you.)

"Take two aspirin, and call me in the morning," is a perfect example of the power of positive thinking. (Unless you are aspirin-sensitive like I am, that DOES work.)

I also saw a commercial for carpet cleaning that mentioned getting rid of bacteria and viruses. I thought WHOA that's a bit suggestive.

Also for what it's worth, I have a cousin in mid 70's -was in a rehab for a broken bone..... got covid. In hospital , got the hydroxychloriquine (spelling) and is actually improving and being weaned off of oxygen . Did not need a ventilator,and should be released in a few days back to the rehab.

So what I understand is it helps get the zinc into the cells to stop the virus from replicating. Zinc is great but getting your cells to take it in is the difficulty.

pneumonia (3, 20).

Read comprehensively, not selectively.

From this summary, the findings are that children suffering from malnutrition in developing countries suffer from impaired cellular immune response. And that zinc supplementation was shown to be useful in those circumstances.

The Abstract describes why the authors went in that direction in their testing. But their testing was not done on malnourished children.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Cells and virus

HEp-2 cell monolayer cultures were maintained in Opti-MEM I medium (Life Technologies, Gaithersburg, Md.) supplemented with glutamine, amphotericin B, gentamicin, and 5% fetal calf serum. Opti-MEM I medium, which contains less than 3.4 nM zinc in the form of zinc sulfate, was used as mock treatment for the experiments. Working stocks of the virus were prepared by propagation in HEp-2 cell monolayer cultures at 37°C after infection at a multiplicity of infection (MOI) of 0.1 PFU/cell. When a significant cytopathic effect was detected, the supernatant was collected, clarified, aliquoted, and stored in cryovials at −70°C until used. The endpoint plaque titer of the virus stock used was 5.3 log10 PFU/ml.

Dare I also point out that these were laboratory tests. Call them test tube tests, not human studies. Here are some quotes from the conclusion:

"While some clinical studies showed that zinc significantly shortened the duration of symptoms during rhinovirus infection (5, 17), other studies showed that zinc had no therapeutic effect "

The therapeutic relevance of zinc in RSV infection is not clear. Our studies were not designed to examine therapy per se.

To achieve systemic concentrations at such levels with oral zinc therapy likely would be difficult without resulting local zinc toxicity such as mucosal ulceration.

In the absence of zinc deficiency, however, zinc treatment of RSV infection likely would not be tolerated at the concentrations that were observed by us to inhibit RSV replication in this study."

I used to take things to boost my immune system until the doctor I had at that time questioned me as to why. I have some type of autoimmune disease and building my immune system was increasing the damage to my body. When I read of people taking all kinds of supplements to increase their immune system I have to cringe because many people do have autoimmune problems and unless they are bad enough or their doctor is knowledgeable never are tested.

I often take a Vitamin C tablet and a zinc lozenge when I feel a cold coming on. Any benefit I get might well be a placebo effect, but that's okay. It's a low enough, cheap enough, dose that it won't do me harm.

To get to the main point, you have to be on guard against people who want to make a buck from your fear, and are willing to cheat you to do it. There's lots of fear about covid now, so lots of opportunities for bad actors. You stand to lose your health or your money if you fall for a scam.

I LOL when I read that--another source. Rita Wilson, the opera singer & actress, who had Covid 19 seems very sure that it was totally the cure that caused her symptoms. Covid 19, nah, didn't have a thing to do with having vertigo, being nauseous, feeling weak & being bedridden

She must have been an asymptomatic CoVid victim since the 'cure' caused all her suffering. Which begs the question of why she was taking medicine that could have been used on a severely ill person?

I looked over her bio & didn't see anything about her having been to med school or being an expert in pharmacology.
