Help with decorating my small open concept dining room
Comments (47)Here is my first thought... Think about the floral chairs. You mentioned that you use tablecloths quite a bit. The floral pattern may limit using a pattered tablecloth - unless it's a stripe fabric. Something to consider... But I do like the chairs. I'm not crazy about using all upholstery, as in your second photo. Did you not like the silver tub chair from World Market? The only reason why I say this is because of the white chairs and white cabinet. If one is a brighter white, it may not look right. The metal is more like a neutral. Also - it looks like you have more red accents in your kitchen - the solid upholstered chair is more rust. Here is another patterned chair with more red tones: Also - when your guy makes the table, make sure he gives you enough overhang on each end (short ends) so you can get two chairs there if you want. As it appears now, you would be limited to one chair, sitting between the legs. Comments (7)I agree with Ingrid on bringing the dining room set out into the room. I'm not a fan of peninsulas. I don't want to eat with a view of the microwave but I'm in the minority, everyone seems to have them. You have a pretty room, you should face it at meal times. If you really want seating at the island, get stools that will mostly fit under the overhang. How long is the sofa wall and how wide is the room? I always vote for big, horizontal art centered over the sofa and a bigger rug to ground the living space and then a vertical art piece in the dining room. Maybe an arc lamp in the corner behind the sofa too with the sofa pushed out of the corner just a little bit. Do you have artwork elsewhere in the house? Is it landscapes, modern geometric, it's going to depend what appeals to you. You do colorful as your backdrop is pretty neutral....See MoreFun decorating ideas for condo in DC area
Comments (3)Can you make better use of that dark recess on the right? It is an odd place for a return air vent. See if the vent can be reversed so it is in the room next door and you have that space there available to reconfigure. Art above the FP should be no wider than the firebox opening, and I'd keep it below that door frame on the right. You could wall mount the TV above the plug and cable connection on an articulated arm to you can adjust it for easy viewing, or we might find a better spot for it if you can afford to move the cable connection....See MoreI need help with decor on a small Living area.
Comments (24)I would move the wing chairs facing each other directly, so that they make a U shape with the sofa. Cushions. Put the yellow cushion on one of the wing chairs. For the other wing chair, choose another bright color from the painting and buy a cover for the black cushion. To test this look, find a scarf/tee shirt/anything to wrap the black cushion in. Leave only the matching cushions on the love seat. Bring back the plant and put it near the window, raising it slightly and centering it in the space so that it fills the corner better. Center the tripod light in its space too. I don't see a good place for your end tables. Definitely not blocking the traffic path. Take all your family photos (from the end tables and from the top of the secretary desk), and make a gallery wall where a person can walk right up to them and see them easily. Hallways are great for this. If you prefer them in this room, put them on the short wall to the left of the kitchen where you now have one small piece of art....See MoreRL Relocation LLC
