I really need to make a decision about this soon as we're about to pull up the old carpeting in the room with the fireplace would like to whitewash it first if it won't mess up the ability to tile right over later, so really hoping someone will know/have tried. - Thanks!

I also think it looks very nice and that you did a great job. I would suggest colorful paintings in your room which will take the focus off fireplace, but mostly it will put some life and personality in from what I can see is a very neutral and decorator-type scheme. Your walls are very dark, although possibly it's just the lighting in this photo, but a few large canvases of art that you love would be lovely.

I would paint the fireplace a creamy off-white, and since you're asking for any and all advice, I'd also paint the ceiling white, beams and wall trim included. Your flooring has a nice "modern farmhouse" vibe, but the dark beams and trim, in my opinion, have a 1970s look that clashes with that style. It also looks like your doors and windows have white trim, so the dark beams kind of take over the room. I think the current mantle complements the floor well if the fireplace is white. The screen is easy to replace if you don't like it.

Looking for advice on how best to get this travertine fireplace to match the rest of updates in the house. Ideally I’d like to keep the stone look as the outside of the house has limestone, but don’t want it to just look painted over.
