Corian is far and away superior to back painted glass, estone, granite, sintered, or tile in a shower. Not even close.

Yeah but the color choices SUCK. Even looking at the Colors of Corian. I want a robins egg blue / Tiffany blue / sea foam green. Ideas???

It’s in the $100-$130 range. Because there are a lot of clueless hacks out there trying to set it, and they break it. So the ones that can do it, have all been trained, and they can charge the same as a quartz.

We did our kitchen backsplash in back painted glass, it was pricey, but looks great and is zero maintenance. We are getting ready to remodel our master bath and were also considering using it in the shower. So, it is pricey, we haven't made a final decision yet, but I am leaning against it because I would like the same covering for the shower and the floors in the bathroom. Were thinking of quartz, because we also want to avoid all of the grout lines. We were getting ready to meet with the tile/quartz person our contractor uses, but it hasn't happened because of stay at home. However, we are also considering porcelain slabs. They are thinner and lighter weight, I guess, also cheaper (not the main consideration but doesn't hurt!) I saw some in a store that really looked like marble. But I think the selection is limited. We'll see whenever I finally get to talk to the guy. Would be interested to see what you end up deciding

A local non hands on GC, not fabricator, got himself certified via a questionable process. So he could order wholesale and “cut out the fabricator middleman”. Then he ordered a whole container to redo his house and use it as a write off. And he proceeded to break all but 3 slabs. None of the slabs he tried to put on the floors made it. The fireplace wall did, because that was the last of the projects. The whole hubris thing is legendary.

My friend David, who has owned a local granite shop for decades, did the hands on week long training. Only some of the stone fabricating skills translated to doing slab porcelain. But he was hands on and persisted. He doesn’t do a lot of it, because the price he has to charge is over $100, while the no name quartz is $60. But he is who I recommend, when someone wants it.

Find your local David. It’s a great surface if you can find that type of fabricator.

Backlight some Meganite Translucent Ice Green please. That'd be an amazing shower.

"...and they would not guarantee the colorfastness..." That alone would encourage me to use a different material.

Lots of large format porcelain tiles available these days. When I remodeled my master bath 7 years ago I used 24" x 24" tiles in the shower. Good quality tiles and a good tile installer allowed for very thing grout lines. If I was doing the same shower today, I would use the even bigger tiles that are now available. Yes, not totally grout less, but you have to decide how much more you want to pay for having no grout lines at all.

Just-Janni, did you look at the product that Joseph Corlett, LLC posted? They have a perfect robin's egg blue that is translucent and can be backlit. Look at both pictures on this page. Ignore the little dit-dots of speckles, look at it lit and think of what it will look like from the entry of the room!

Thanks all - will see if anyone locally carries the product Joseph recommended - can't really backlight it since it's has to be affixed to the wall the way we've designed the shower now - but it IS cool as hell when it's translucent.

I also agree that getting REALLY large "sheet" type tile products may be diminishing returns - but try talking hubby out of on floor to ceiling piece of anything feels like banging my head against the wall - his concern for budget is not anywhere near mine. ;-)

I do my searches through a European tile site, so you would need to search for local tile shops that carry these brands or can source the products. I have seen Refin Ceramic products here in Los Angeles and their Vetri collection looks like it would fit your wants.

Sometimes what sounds like an easy and/or simple idea, turns out not to be, and is quite a bit more expensive!

Nobody really "carries" the Meganite. You'll probably have to pay someone to get a remnant and make a mockup before investing that much in the shower.

I'd get those panels up and backlit, no problem, but it'd be expensive.

I am currently on a path to use some aluminum signboard material covered with a billboard / automotive wrap with full custom graphics.

Yes - I am a glutton for punishment - but my design options are limitless. ;-)
