Large format floor tile layout dilemma.
Comments (10)The toilet is at the far right side in the back. The vanity is a stainless steel open console with a granite top along the right side so the tile along the right side will be visible. The shower base will have a glass enclosure with the shower entrance from the side away from the door. Here is an early version which gives a rough idea though the shower size is not accurate, and the vanity I purchased has a single sink and is a bit smaller. If the layout is shifted to have a full tile next to the shower, I then end up with 2 1/2" wide cuts all along one side. Since the vanity is open, the right side will not be buried at all. The left side is behind the tub and behind the door but still not exactly buried and a 2 1/2" strip seems very bad unless it is totally hidden....See MoreLarge format tile on shower floor
Comments (9)For a skilled setter it is not that much more difficult or time consuming in the scheme of things perhaps ads 2 hours or so.. And to clear up more misinformation it doesnt always require a custom pan or A different screeding plan in advance. This shower pan was prepped for mosaic tile. In the 9th hour we decided to upgrade this clients pan floor and all it took was some medium bed mortar and yes used at proper alotted max thickness. Lastly to answer and concur jennifers points it is normal all over the world and the US Get the tile and design you want and hire the qualified installer that can make it happen without reservation or worry....See MoreLarge format porcelain tile kitchen floor with Taj Mahal counters

Comments (3)We did 2" hex on a new bath in our 1915 house--the original bathroom in the house had 1" hex when built (though right now has 12x12 beige tiles circa mid-1990s) so that seemed like a good compromise to be a nod to the history of the house while involving a little less grout. I do plan to use either 1" hex or 1" square tiles when we finally get around to replacing the floor in our existing bath, though, even though it will soon be used primarily by two kids. They aren't particularly hard on the floor except for an area that chronically has toothpaste stains on it because it's under the toothbrush holder. But that cleans up easily, and we're solving that one by getting a new console sink that will extend under it and have a little bit of counter, so it will drip there instead. If you use a good grout that's not white, I don't think you'll have big issues with the upkeep....See MoreLE
