Setting Large Format Tiles

I'm looking at 20x20 porcelain tiles, (Marazzi Vesale Stone), for my shower walls and the bathroom floor and I'd like to clarify the procedure.

I read in John Bridge's book, "Tile Your World", (love that title), that for large tiles he uses a medium bed thinset, (maybe something like LATICRETE 220 Marble & Granite Mortar or LATICRETE 4-XLT, which Laticrete seems to categorize as a thinset mortar), and doesn't trowel it on the substrate but back butters 5 spots, the 4 corners and the center, with dollups. He mentions that he doesn't need full support for wall tiles.

As for the floor, I'm guessing I'd use the same mortar but this time I'd trowel it on, maybe combing with a 1/4 x 1/4 notch, though I'm unsure of the evenness of the floor. Or maybe a thinset mortar would be better, something like LATICRETE Sure Set, which is designed for large tiles on floors.

Am I on the right track here?

I suppose I should just ask you guys how you'd do this.

Thanks,

Bill
