You can get rid of it by singing the song in your head and finishing it. The secret is finishing it.

Thanks Elizabeth, I've done that, but somehow they are more persistent now that I'm home all the time and they recur like nightmares.

LOL I have always been a victim...right now, Lionel Ritchie is singing "Stuck

on You" over and over to me. To my knowledge, I haven't even heard this

song lately.

Perhaps doing something highly mathematical, like a very detailed knitting pattern, would keep your brain too occupied to run the sound track in the back ground.

My cure is the same as Elizabeth's. If that doesn't work, I'll turn on music of a different kind. Of course that doesn't work if you're in bed late at night.

I've been having ear worms of a couple Bill Withers' song since he passed. Lean on me and Ain't no Sunshine. RIP Bill Withers.

Ain't No Sunshine gives me an "eye worm" image of Hugh Grant's walk through the market, through the seasons, in Notting Hill.

I also read it as 'eat' worms, so I almost didn't even open it!

The surest way to kill an ear worm, if only temporarily, is to turn on music and listen to that instead. There's no guarantee it won't return or that a new worm won't get established when you turn the music off.

Or will the dog start howling accompaniment? Are the walls so thin as to awaken the neighbours?

Have a small radio on bedside table that needs just a tap on a button topside to begin operation.

As for spouse ... better have a bed made up ahead of time ... at a distant location.

Or be ready to move down/out to the car.

Or provide ear plugs.

Thanks Lars, that is one of my favorite songs too. You should see my Pandora List of channels. But around here when I am working in the garden with my DH he has his channel on .... Marty Robins and I find myself having those songs in my head.

Funny you should bring up that subject. I too, have had more ear worms than usual.

Every few days it's a new one, but it stays in my head (ear) all day! Today is Elton John's ..Sad Songs. Usually mine always have a catchy tune. a few days ago, it was Garth Brooks,..Friends in Low Places. I have heard it said, that when an ear worm starts, you should sing the Happy Birthday song, and that will get rid of it. That only works while I'm singing Happy Birthday!

When we were first dating, the couple who lived right above Stephanie's apartment, would put that song on -- loud -- when they wanted to, um, "do it". You could frequently hear them above the sound of the music.

For years after, whenever that song would be played we would glance at each other and smirk.
