Without seeing your layout, we cannot tell you what will work best. It's all about the layout.

However, if you are putting in wall ovens, be sure you have landing space directly next to them (i.e., no tall cabinet on at least one side) or, if they're not on a busy aisle or walkway, within 48" in front of them.

Hood...the hood should be at least 6" wider than the cooking appliance/surface (range or cooktop). So, a 36" range should have at least a 42" hood; a 48" range should have at least a 54" hood.

Thank you! I wasn't aware about the 6" difference in hoods over range. Had we had the smaller range then we would have definitely done the 48" hood. Never thought about doing larger with the 48" range. We do have space in the kitchen for both layouts, just mainly wondering what do most people prefer? I feel that aesthetically the range would look better vs. the double ovens, but those that have double ovens or have had both, what does most think or end up putting in your home? If range works better, go with 36" Wolf, or larger range? If so, then looking at the Zline brand, but do not know much about it.

I realized that I hadn't posted in design dilemma and it wouldn't let me edit. So i deleted and posted again...or so I thought. I apologize if that is an issue and I broke some kind of rule that I wasn't aware of.

What styles of cooking/baking do you do? How often? How often do you have more than one person cooking/baking in your kitchen? More than 2? How often do you entertain? What types of food for entertaining? Anything else about how you use your kitchen?

opaone, I would love to say that I cooked a lot but between my husband and I...maybe 3-4 times a week. Usually only 1 cooks or bakes at a time. Entertain occasionally. I like a kitchen that isn't very distracting and has clean lines. I know it needs to function well (I have 2 small kids), so I am hoping that I make a good decision when it comes to function of the oven/ovens and where they are placed. I think regardless of what we will do, most people will not think that my kitchen is cluttered, but was wondering if anyone has had both sets and what would they chose over the other.

Buehl, thank you very much. My kids love to help in the kitchen (when its something they can help with) so definitely keeping this in mind! I appreciate all of your advice! They especially love to help me when we bake. Mainly mixing for now.

being that you & family are not huge cooks, consider a speed oven, which is smaller than a full size and put a full size oven below it. that's what we have for a family of 5 and it has worked out great, no regrets!!

speed oven is also a microwave/broiler/roaster... etc. we have one and use it multiple times a day. it heats faster than the full size and most times we really don't need the full-size. its used more than the full-size.

also, look into induction. safer, faster, easier to clean. and with kids that a huge plus in my book. i also like the cooktop b/c you put all your pots and pans underneath, so convenient. Cooktops are also great b/c you have no oven underneath, so no heat escape when cooking and i like having the ovens apart from the cooktop so others can help in the kitchen. or more bluntly, no one is your way while cooking. "excuse me, i need to check on my pizza in the oven" ugh! (hope that makes sense!)

FWIW: we have a Miele speed oven, Wolf "E" series full size oven, Miele 36" induction cooktop and Miele DW.

I am researching cooktop and eye level wall ovens. My husband and I are both seniors. We don't want to bend over to get something out of a range oven! If we were younger we'd go with either. Anyway it's something to think about for other seniors to consider.

IMO since you do not cook for 20 every day get a 36” range with a double oven it will save space and money. I very often use a hood the same size as the range but it needs to have good CFM .I ahve really no idea why someone who only cooks 3-4 x a week needs awarming drawer. I run a catering biz from my home and have an all gas 36” 6 burner range, and double all electric wall ovens all the ovens are convection, the reason for the gas oven is I like some things baked in a gas oven like pizza ,and bread for sure.. My hood is the same size as my range and I have never wished it was larger.. You need to sit down and really think about how you cook and then share that with your kitchen designer and not a cabinet sales person but an independent KD. IMO Wolf is overrated and over priced as are Sub Zero fridges. Make sure no matter what appliances you buy there is service in your area. Function is the first priority in kitchen design always.

WIsh I could cook more but we are on the road a lot during the week for the sport my daughter is in so we do tend to get take out on those days. On the other days we do try to make a good meal. My husband suggested a warming drawer if we get a 36" range single oven and no double ovens. Glad to see these suggestions as w hadn't thought about a lot of these! Definitely doing gas regardless! We have electric now and we miss the gas in our old house. Not to mention when the electricity goes out from time to time....we can't good a thing. So gas for sure or maybe dual fuel.
