Gosh, thank you everyone - it feels really good to be able to give something back here; I've learned so much from y'all! awm the paint is my mix of RH Saffron & Butter, done in Aura paints. I really like it in every light - this room gets a LOT of light, but none of it is direct sun. I tried a ridiculous number of sample paints, & finally decided to have my mix custom done in Aura. Unfortunately I bought too many gallons of RH paints (I do love their colors!) before discovering Aura & Ellen Kennon) The kitty is Django. & yes, he is a happy kitty, except when he's hungry. He was rescued as a tiny baby, from a dumpster, hungry, & 12 years later I still haven't convinced him that he'll always have enough food. daisy yes - those are the infamous stairs. Doing projects like this does make me understand at least one good reason for blogging, but good heavens, if I started blogging I'd have to read other people's blogs, & I already know how lost you can get in them! I spend enough time on the internet as it is! I guess this IS my blog lol! Besides which, I appreciate the well-written blogs - here you can just pound out the words w/o paying too much attention to editing. Not always such a good thing, I guess ;-D

@cawaps the lighting absolutely made a difference! original lighting was two dim 2700K CF bulbs. replaced them with four GE Reveal LEDs, which have an almost imperceptible pink tint. much brighter, but the pinkish note makes it less harsh and very flattering for a vanity. the old paint color was an obnoxious bright peach. replaced it with a clean neutral white. that, plus grey towels, rugs, etc, worked together to tone down the brown in the granite. but even when the lights are off, the granite looks better! those peach walls were throwing a lot of color.

I also fell in love with the DeGourney wall paper and even had my designer get a quote from the company which was gaspingly expensive - about $18,000 for a very small amount of paper. I had my heart set on using it for my bathrooms and I located a company on Etsy which does hand painted silk wallpaper. They were great to work with - fully custom as my designer sent her design sketches for the paper. I wanted some peacocks incorporated. And obviously all of the panels have to be fully customized in terms of working with my various heights (floor to ceiling in one accent bedroom wall versus shorter panels in the bathrooms since they were above the tiles). The company's owner (Lily) was great to work with and everything went smoothly. The wallpaper was beautiful and completely in accordance with the approved designs and templates. I ordered the silk samples to choose the background and all of the design sketches and templates were sent and approved before work was started on my paper. It is a very responsive and very professional company. The quality of my snaps isn't great - the blue in the photo is looks faded and in real life is a much pretty less drab blue. If my handpainted wallpaper isn't quite as beautiful as the $18,000 DeGourney so be it as it is quite beautiful enough for me. My designer works with very high end stuff and was very impressed by the quality. My paper wasn't cheap as it still came to over $3000 for a relatively small amount of paper. And add to that the services of a really skilled wallpaper hanger because hanging paper like this which is not easy - each panel went in a specific place on the wall - no margin of errors.
