skin coat or triple thick primer?

Hi! I’m removing wallpaper in my bathroom and am finding a chipped coat of old paint or primer underneath, on top of drywall. The drywall is in tact. To prep for paint, do I need to do a skim coat of joint compound, or would something like Zinsser triple thick primer or peel stop be enough to smooth out the wall? I’m nervous to do the skim coat as a total amateur, and because the room has lots of odd corners that might make getting a clean line more difficult. Some corners are very tight (120 degrees maybe?) and some more like 30 degrees and one is a slightly rounded corner. It’s such a weird space. Any guidance is welcome, thx!
