When we did a tour of the winery in eastern Missouri there were rose hedges around the vineyards. So I'll say Roses.

Dees, that's awesome. I learned to drive a 13-speed back in the day, and went on a few hauls with a friend.

But I have zero sense of direction, so it wasn't for me. Fun though!

Two things popped into my head immediately....flowers and onions. How different can you get. But I added the onions because I read somewhere that if you keep a cut onion your night stand , it will absorb germs. I don't know why I thought flowers except when I envision rows of grapes, I don't think the vines are that attractive in the early stages and flowers would make them prettier. :-))))

LoneJack has it :-) Roses are planted around vineyards as they share similar growing conditions and are considered an "early warning system" for diseases that can affect the grapes.

Yes, roses. Somewhere I have some photos I took of vineyards with roses planted at the end of the rows. We'd seen them so often and always wondered why they were planted like that, so one day I asked in a winery tasting room, and was told that the conditions of the roses alerted the crew as to what was going on with the vines. I'll edit this to add a photo if I can find one.
