Considering Traveler Palm Placement

Bridget Foster

I have two small Traveler Palms in pots. One is about 5' tall with maybe 4 leaves on it (definitely pot bound), and the other is about 2' tall with maybe 4-6 leaves on it. I have recently moved to a MUCH smaller yard than my last house (and starting from ZERO in the landscaping department) and find myself wondering about turning them loose. I've read lots and lots of sites that don't seem to agree whether the roots cause foundation, plumbing, and pool damage over time? Ideally I'd want to grow a single trunk oriented in the center of my back fence where I can see it from the pool. The space from that back fence to the pool cage is 8 feet. I also considered along the fence on the right hand side of the photo. I haven't measured distances to my house and the neighbor, but the pic should give a general frame of reference. Does anyone definitively know whether Traveler Palms are an issue over time? Thank you!
