Need some help to match my kitchen tile floor with my wood flooor
Comments (29)Gray flooring is very trendy - which means it will become the dreaded "dated". While light gray as a neutral will always be useful, the extreme over use of gray will turn on itself - just as over use of oak did. If this was a cheap laminate gray floor with a limited lifespan - no big deal (except the waste in the landfill) but you had better love this expensive floor 10 years from now when the HGTV crowd will say "yuck - look at all that gray" - just like they say "Yuck, look at all that oak" now. If you will love it, go ahead. I have my oak kitchen which I like just fine. However, a natural wood floor will add color and will go with just about any style thrown at it. It is best if one applies the trendy colors to easily changed surfaces - like paint for walls, decor, curtains, upholstery and even a backsplash if it is not a huge expense. Listen to SJ - she is a flooring expert. The gray, gray rooms just looked washed out - especially when all the new design pics I am seeing are showing color....See MoreSmall galley kitchen - change wood floor plank direction?

Comments (2)" The kitchen butts to a dark hardwood floor in the family room" I'd run that floor right into the kitchen. That actually IS what is "modern now" in kitchens. Unifying first floor flooring is modern. Without photos of your kitchen, it would be quite difficult to select for you, and I will bet your counter tops are granite. Not pairing well with a marble floor, unless they are a simple non busy black.Or a plain quartz....See MoreShould I change the color of my kitchen cabinets?
Comments (4)15K live wire?? Just for painting? Although, I have to agree on that island. Here's what I would spend my money on in that kitchen. you see how this island is situated? I'd do one like this ( but orientate it so that it's square w/your stove. Then I would do a built in microwave and put it in the new island. Over your range I'd do a vent hood in a wood and paint it all to match the cabinets. can't really tell how much room you have. you do do a large square or a rectangle. Hopefully the island is built on top of the wood floor, otherwise you'll have to find some planks to fill in the spot you remove. Paint everything in your white, and get a new piece for the island. you could do a solid quartz. get new hardware, pendants over the new island, new stools. Just for a pro cabinet painter to come in and paint, would be in the 5-7K region. You want a pro cabinet painter, not a house painter. they have to remove everything and take it back to their shops to spray. it must be sanded and primed. if they merely paint them on scene, you're getting a cheapo job. Oh, and if you want a backsplash, you'll have to remove that 4" piece up the back. not a big deal to do...See MoreGrace Carino
