Small galley kitchen - change wood floor plank direction?

Hello everyone,

I'm renovating my small one-bedroom apartment in New York, and originally planned to put a new wood floor everywhere other than the kitchen and bath, keeping tile in those rooms. I'm taking out a closet to semi-open the kitchen as you'll see in the plan below, and a few people have suggested that I extend the wood floor into the kitchen rather than keep the tile, so that the space feels more integrated.

I'm planning on 5" wide oak planks that will run lengthwise in the living room/bedroom area. What I'm not sure about is whether I should run the planks in the same direction across the small kitchen space, or have them turn starting where the tile used to be, so that they run the length of the kitchen. The new design floor plan is below -- I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!
