Comments (3)We have waterlox on our floors, and to recoat we just clean with TSP cleaner and mineral spirits, we don't even sand. Waterlox has tung oil in it, but your new tung oil is probably breaking down the surface. It's always safest to call the experts, I wouldn't use acetone unless the experts told me to use it, you will take some of the old waterlox off, and I'm not sure you want to do that, I think you can clean up the tung oil without starting all over....See MoreI'd like some suggestions to update my kitchen. Comments (7)As much as I love dark stains, painting the cabinets may be the way to go. White, Grey, Blues are what is "in" right now but they're still nice neutral colors. My issue with this kitchen is what appear to be 30" wall cabinets and larger than life ceiling height in comparison. it makes the space seem short. lighter cabinets and maybe a darker wall color will close this gap. A horizontal backsplash will also help visually make the space longer, making it appear bigger....See MoreWhat color/type of kitchen floor will match my hardwood floor?
Comments (14)What's your counter top? As much as I love the look of blue slate up against a wood floor, it would look weird if it is the ONLY punch of blue/gray in the entire kitchen. If in doubt, look to your counter tops to help pick your floor. It is a very simple (yet elegant) form of DIY Design which helps homeowners complete the look without having all the stress of picking 'another colour' for the floors....See MoreNeed some serious help with my kitchen counter choice!
Comments (2)Use one surface color/material for all the countertops since you have different colored cabinets. Why are you raising the seating area? I would extend the top at the same level as the island so you can use regular chairs or stools rather than bar height. It will open up the look of the kitchen. I would use the same countertop surface on that as well. Also, do not use the 4" backsplash. Tile the walls from countertop to the bottom of the top cabinets, and the whole area above the stove. It will look much less choppy, and is not a big expense. Or go lower at table height....See MoreJAN MOYER
