counter height for crafting in the laundry room
Comments (1)My opinion - If you plan on living in the house for a very long time, you can do what works best for you. If you think you'll ever sell it, be warned that customizing it too much can hurt the resale. If the house will be sold in the future, the bottom of the cabinet you install should be 52" up from the floor. That's the clearance we have and it gives my W/D one inch of wiggle room. We spent a small fortune remodeling our laundry room this year, before we bought front-load W/D and matching pedestals. I have to have the pedestals due to a bad lower back since I was 30 y/o. If I were buying a house and it was a toss-up between one I had to spend $$$$ on to remodel for my W/D or one that requires no changes, I'll take the path of least resistance. Comments (6)I would love to see how it turned out. We're doing a very similar renovation. So far our walls are alabaster and we've only purchased lower cabinets. I painted them Mindful Gray (BM). We just purchased our counter tops yesterday and they are unfinished butcher block. So now I'm panicking on what stain to use on them (our floors are Allen + Roth Russet Oak Laminate). I don't want the floors & counter tops to be too matchy and I'm considering just oiling them without staining. So many decisions!...See MoreLaundry room countertop help
Comments (0)I have a small mud/laundry room when entering the house through the garage. We're planning a DIY update. We're looking to add a countertop and upper cabinets to the laundry room, inspired somewhat by this idea: We're not really sure how to size the countertop. Here are pictures of the current room from a couple of angles: The wall on the left with the water hookups extends 24.5" while the wall on the right extends 21.5" The appliances extend out 9.5" from the wall on the right... My thought is to have the counter a depth of 21.5" that goes to the turn of the wall on the right. My wife does not like this idea as it leaves 9.5" of the appliances exposed. She likes the idea of having a 24.5" deep counter that wraps around the wall on the right OR an even deeper counter that wraps around the wall on the right all the way to the door trim. Looking for some insight and advice... Thank you!...See MoreNeeding help choosing coordinating floors, counter top and backsplash
Comments (12)thank you, what did you mean by "I would not take up the charge of the sink"? Do you mean you wouldn't bother replacing? Regarding the flooring....the rest of the house has the old school 3/4" oak flooring so if I change the flooring to hardwood in the kitchen and entryway, I would have to change out all the hardwood in the living room and kitchen. This was my thought process anyway. I did check out the cost and for the flooring I like, it would be a lot of $. To answer your question, the sq footage of the combined entry way and kitchen which is currently tiled, is about 170 sq ft. what did you mean about backsplash? I was thinking black granite counter top and then a simple backsplash and yes I def want a coordinated look. warm, inviting and not choppy and misfitting. thanks again...See MoreGeanna Kincanon Prescott
