Please Help with the Front Facade!
Comments (35)I am truly amazed!Thank you all for helping us envision how we can transform an eyesore into something more aesthetically pleasing & balanced! I really like squirrelheaven's rendering with the addition of white trim softening up the brickwork & tying in the side with the front, as well as the latest rendering. I do feel that the white trim at the top of the triangle shouldn't be thick white & that the bottom of the triange should blend in with the brick except for over the window & the eaves like kgwlisa's second rendering... I love the landscaping suggestions and renderings as well! The tree in front is a peach which we may be able to move. It's about 8 feet from the house. The big shrub under the double windows is a rhododenren which is too mature to dig out & move, perhaps we can prune it? I welcome all your input and wonderful photoshop's!!...See MoreFront Facade Help
Comments (21)I don't mind the color of the trim as is. In fact, you know, many people would be their 40th sample can trying to get a cream/beige tone that coordinated with the brick as well as it does... You actually have a very charming home. Given you JUST painted the shutters and door and put in your new windows, I might encourage you to just take suggestions for down the road and enjoy the facade as it exists right now but a bit. I think it's hard to get a sense of how cheerful the landscaping is this time of year in most parts of the country as nothing but evergreens are really showing off yet. I do agree, though, that down the road painting the door with something with more saturation/brightness might be great. I'm partial to the orange, for some reason, myself, though I wonder if it clashes up close as some of those bricks seem a tad pinkish. (I do actually like the seal point on the eaves, though I see how it could look heavy to some. Your house seems to have enough weight to pull it off and I like the way it features the lines and adds a touch of something...distinction? It also seems to play nice with the roof and brick, both and ties in your shutter color to the house better. I just hear you loud and clear that it is more work than you want to do. Eventually, the house will need to be repainted/freshened up and that might be a better time to make a major change like that?)...See MoreIdeas for Updating Our Front Exterior Home Facade?
Comments (12)Love the house. A definite yes to the squared up columns. There is so much garage door expanse (three car garage--fantastic!!) that I would maybe consider painting them or changing out to blend more with house. Landscaping refresh. Front door really does look fine, but if it's not in great condition and you're looking for a change, I would switch to one center door with sidelites. Congrats on your new home!...See MoreDesign help - changing facade of house
Comments (27)Your house was built with a style in mind -- the high gables, the diamond window, the placement of the windows all say "storybook house" ... but someone tried to modernize it a few decades ago by adding shutters and horizontal siding. What would make your house look "right" again is adding back some of its original fun. Expensive: replace the 1970's siding with shingle style siding. Less expensive option: paint the siding a lighter, brighter color: sage or minty green, robin's egg blue, a sunnier shade of pale yellow. Paint door and shutters to contrast/coordinate with new siding color. Eliminate the shutters -or- change from the big-box style they are now, to a lighter board and batten style, maybe with a pine tree cutout (or a squirrel cutout if you want to be less subtle). If you do anything with your windows, look into "3 over 1" instead of "6 over 6" grids. If you want to de-emphasize the peak of the entryway, paint its trim board a darker color. An awning could be charming and functional over your front door. Oh, and I love your concern for your giant trees -- yay for mature, magnificent trees!...See Morecpartist
