When are unlined curtains ok?
Comments (9)Lining helps with light control, but if that is not an issue then go for simple unlined panels. If you hang the panels from rings you CAN close them, but not easily. Many people hang panels outside the width of the window for decor only. If function comes into play, then you might need traverse rods and pinch pleated drapes (not often seen these days). I've gotten to the point where I no longer do custom lined drapes. Instead I have blinds and or simple panels in each room. Privacy is not much of an issue because we are so wooded. However we do have blinds at almost all windows....See MoreAnother curtain rod hanging question(long)
Comments (2)You should have double studs next to the window trim so install your brackets next to the trim, or within that vertical area. Then extend the rod on each side to the length you want. Once the drapes are up, you won't know where the brackets are, unless you have really large, decorative ones. Of course, doing this won't allow the drapes to open beyond the window but I would prefer this over not hitting a stud. I would try to put the center support bracket on the wall. If you mount it on the trim it's going to throw off the depth of the end brackets. Plus, I think it'll look better on the wall. If space is a problem, you don't have to use the same bracket (that's on the ends) for the center. You may want to use one that is less visible. Since there should be a header across the top of the window, hitting wood won't be a problem. IMO, you really need to hit a stud with the type hardware you intend to hang....See Morewhat curtains to hang using short rods
Comments (2)I agree with torrey. You can always find long rods on overstock or make one yourself using piping from home depot or your local hardware store. We have made two extra long ones from piping. We did ours using support brackets but here is another way to do it. It costs nearly nothing. https://hisugarplum.com/diy-another-galvanized-pipe-curtain-rod/...See MoreCurtain hanging height dilemma
Comments (5)Well it sounds like you don’t really have many options and have answered your own question. Hang them as on the right and get new curtains, seems to be the lesser of 2 evils. The option close to the ceiling is a much better look and the preferred method anyway. In looking at the pic more closely, I think visually it looks a little “off” (and not terribly so) because the crown is “closing in” the ceiling height. Not sure you want to get into removing crown, patching and painting walls and ceiling in that room just to do curtains - but that may be your only option to remedy the look. Unless you wanted to go a completely different route and go with some kind of outside mount Roman shade or top down/bottom up shade solution that mounts to the door itself. Not sure how that would look or if it would work....See Moreshirlpp
