Gap between countertops and cabinets?
Comments (12)So your custom builder gave you a crooked countertop because... ...her custom cabinet sub installed a crooked custom cabinet... ...because her custom flooring installer installed a crooked custom floor... ...over a crooker frame built by her custom crooked framers... ...over a crooked custom foundation installed by...you get where this is going by now, right? Or do you? lol It all comes down to crooked earth. Crooked earth because for you religious folk, god just had to work fast and went for a sphere-shaped earth so he could rest on that seventh day instead of spending that seventh day with a god-sized trowel, flattening things out a bit. I don't think you have any recourse. Why? Because everything written so far points to the logical conclusion that your crooked countertop? Why, it's an act of god!...See MoreHUGE Gap Between Cabinets & Countertops
Comments (18)You make a good point Hillside House and I have thought about that, I feel its a little of both. I don't have a lot of confidence in the countertop installers as they initially installed countertops that were too short and didn't go all the way to the wall. They tried to hide it but putting up a side splash (which I specifically indicated I did not want multiple times before they installed it). When I addressed the side splash needing to be removed they tried to convince me it would look better with it, then offered to remove it once I'm ready to do my backsplash. I stood my ground and said it needed to be removed before closing and thats when they admitted the countertops were too short. So, I don't have much confidence in them, but do feel whoever installed the cabinets should have taken the time to ensure they were level. Needless to say I am definitely fighting this and won't close until it is fixed properly....See MoreWide Gap Between Countertops and Range
Comments (16)I know that some amount of gap is normal. But usually it is much narrower. And even with a narrow gap, I hate how dirt gets trapped in it. I usually find some heat-resistant caulk and seal it. It's not the manufacturer-recommended procedure, but it has been working fine for me for years. Every couple of years, when the caulk looks grimy, I replace it. With these huge gaps, there is no way caulk can seal things. So, yes, I'd insist on them fixing things. And I'd also insist on them making everything plumb and straight....See MoreGap between bathroom cabinet and stone countertop
Comments (5)It is very common for counters to be shimmed if your cabinets were not level. The stone is stronger level than if it was to be placed flat on an uneven surface. But this all depends on how high it was shimmed and the support it is given....See MoreMorningstar Stone & Tile
