Here's what the help (on searches) says: Formating Your Query To find records which contain all of your search terms: This is the default and requires no formating on your part. If you search for red roses all records that contain both the word red and the word roses, in any order, will be returned. To find records which contain any of your search terms: If you separate your terms with or, all records containing either term will be returned. For example, if you search for red or roses all records that contain either the word red or the word roses will be returned. To find records which match an exact phrase: If you surround your search terms in double quotes, only those records containing that exact phrase will be returned. For example, if you search for "red roses" all records that contain the word red followed immediately by the word roses will be returned. To exclude a word: If you precede a word with not, only those records which don't contain that word will be returned. For example, if you search for red not roses all records that contain the word red but do not contain the word roses will be returned. Nesting You can combine search terms and phrases within parentheses to further refine your search. Here are some examples: (roses or shrubs) pruning Will match records which contain either the word roses or the word shrubs, and the word pruning. (blackspot or "black spot") roses Will match records which contain either the word blackspot or the phrase "black spot", and the word roses. (blackspot or "black spot") (roses or shrubs) Will match records which contain either the word blackspot or the phrase "black spot", and the word roses or the word shrubs. (blackspot or "black spot") (roses not shrubs) Will match records which contain either the word blackspot or the phrase "black spot", and the word roses, but excluding those that contain the word shrubs.

Sometimes, on the suggestions drop down it'll offer you a specific forum and you can choose "Cooking". Sometimes it doesn't. I've found that trying to add the name of the forum to the search terms doesn't help, and the results are mostly for very old threads. The most reliable, just like in GW days, is Google. You don't need to know the formulation (site:ths.gardenweb.com)--If you just type "gardenweb" Google will add the formulation for you. So open a new tab, go to Google, and put what you're searching for in the box, along with "gardenweb cooking" and the top answers will be recent threads in the cooking forum. Choose "see more results like this one" to see more threads that suit.

When I was trying before the "Search" box at the top of the page was the Houzz search box. Now I have Search in GardenWeb. I'm not sure how it happened.

There IS still a way to search just your individual forum! Somebody figured it out several days ago on RMG! Go to the search box on top and type in what you want to search for--a drop down menu will show up with several options for what you want to search. I'm not sure if it's always the first option (for me it has been), but look for the option that has your search words and (in this case) "vegetable gardening" after them, then click on that option and it will search only this forum. I just tried it with "carrots," and it worked! The drop down menu works on Firefox and on Safari IF you have Java enabled. Not sure about other browsers, but I assume it works in any of them as long as Java is enabled. Happy searching, Skybird - from Rocky Mountain Gardening!
