Sue, thanks for article link. I just looked at glads I lifted and they don't have second corm under old one. They have plenty of little bulbels. Assume I leave the roots on but just clean off dirt? Never dug them up for storage before but they were in container that I needed it for planting Spring blooming bulbs...LOL. I have another batch of fluttery white with burgundy centers (Acidanthera)whose foliage were strangled by a wandering Morning Glory on steroids all summer but survived like troopers. When I dug them they also had tons of little bulbels around original corm but no second corm. What gives with my bulbs...LOL. I know I can buy more next year but I get idiotically attached to my plants once they've bloomed. Too painful to toss them. I've got a laundry basket full of Daffodil bulbs I dug up in Spring because I needed to rearrange them after planting perennials and annuals. Just couldn't toss them. They've been sitting all summer/early fall in that laundry basket lined with punctured newspaper in potting soil. When I took off overturned laundry basket I had on them to keep out excessive moisture I found a mass of new foliage peeking out from the potting soil. It looks like a little sea of Daffodils just waiting to burst into bloom next Spring! Thinking of having someone just hold one side, lift the entire mass and plant them in pile of organic top soil I have and then I can divide them carefully next year. (yeah, right) If I slice into that mass now it's likely I'll "slice and dice" the way I've done with Daffs in ground when planting new tulips last month. Tulips in amended clay from last year had disintegrated so glad I bought new ones just in case that was what I found when I lifted their bulb cages. Tulips are the only bulbs I'd be truly upset about moles, voles or some other creature eating. I'm wondering how many people I can scare the pants off of or really perplex by storing these glad corms/bulbs in pantyhose hanging from hooks with gardening tools along inside of garage...LOL. Love gladiolus...they're such a pretty piece of the season's succession of blooming beauties.

I have a 10 x 20 x8 greenhouse that is a plastic vinyl cover style similar to a portable garage. We're zone 8a, in the mountains of central California and saw temps down to 22 degrees in December. We set it up as a greenhouse inside of a greenhouse. We have a 5x10 raised bed that we cover at night with survival blankets (high quality reusable, 5x7ft size $18 each, sewn together to make a larger cover) and heat with old fashioned Christmas lights and when cold, a small heater that has a very low thermostat shut off temp. We also have a 4x4ft table top that has a mini greenhouse over the top that we also cover with a survival blanket to reflect the Christmas tree lights back inside. I have 3 large tomato plants and 3 cherry tomatoes in there. I have toms every day. We also have a Japanese eggplant that is producing fruit we should be able to harvest in about a month, a regular eggplant also with baby eggplants on it. We have hot chili peppers I'm harvesting right now. We also have bush beans, but they're at the end of their life cycle - still alive but pretty tired. We have 3 mini bell peppers, two were hit pretty hard by a mildewy substance and aphids, the other is still doing well (2 different beds) but the bad ones produced up until about the end of December. We also have the typical cold weather kale, swiss chard, cabbage, and the like as well as plenty of lettuce, onion and cilantro (LOVE salsa and we're still making it fresh). It only takes me 7 minutes to close up the greenhouse at night and 5 minutes to open things up in the morning and we're not seeing a huge jump in the electric bill. It seems like the heater comes on no more than for a couple minutes and the survival blankets trap that heat for a long time. The heater is on a stepping stone at soil level so the roots are keeping warm as well. marti8a, I am sorry, I didn't realize there was another post. I agree with you! I want the washer and dryer raised. I have a layout that I am happy with, but still tweaking. The 5-line clothesline was hung a week ago, and I love someplace to hang things to dry in the house without climbing on a ladder to reach the lines. It holds a lot more than the cheap rolling clothes rack I had been using. The location is good running across the room without blocking any of the doorways. We don't have any kids at home, they are grown. The bikes are ours, and too valuable not to put in the house. DH probably wouldn't run into a line, but I am not so sure he wouldn't brush against clean laundry drying on the line. Ease of getting the bikes in and out of the room is DH's top priority. They are used almost daily, and having them by the door is the best place. We take them out the front door for a ride. This is a straight shot to the front door. The aisle will be completely UNblocked. There is room to hang one bike under the cabs and put two bikes side by side against the wall. Pickle2, the clothesline is this one. It's the only multi-line that did not have plastic parts. It can be tightened slightly each time it is pulled out, and tightened on the bar (shortening the line) with a bit more work. I've dried heavy curtains without much dip in the line. Mine is hung with the handle at 88 inches. Good luck! I want to try switching the butlers pantry with the desk, maybe use an open back cabinet with glass front over the inoperable window. Here is a link that might be useful: 5 line clothesline
