Sharpening Blades
Comments (26)Oh I hear you Doberman , nothing like taking out a wheel bearing from a in-balance issue . But after 40 yrs of Sharpening axes , chainsaw blades and knifes and lawnmore blades , I believe any Dude with a little common sense following what Metal Mownie or even Starhust will get the results for a good cut from following the Blade Contour without an out of Balance issue . If not then spend the $$$ for a new blade or Pro Sharpening . . As for Marriage lets not go there :) But I believe my Wife could resharpen my Mower Blade with a little Guidance lol ....See MorePro knife sharpening: How to separate the good from the bad?
Comments (10)Doesn't WT sharpen them for you? Maybe I'm out of the loop on this one, but I've got Cutco knives, and they sharpen them for free for the life of the knife (although, they rarely need sharpening--my most used one is 10 years old and it's just now getting to the point where it might need to be sharpened). I once heard that you should only have knives sharpened by the manufacturer or use their brands of sharpeners on them if you're doing it yourself, because of the differences in materials of different brands. I don't know if that's true, or just an old wive's tale. But I would be hesitant to let just anyone play around with my good knives. When you do find another place, would it be feasible to take just one knife in to them? and see what kind of job they do on that before dumping off the rest of the set?...See Morehow do you sharpen your knives?
Comments (46)The initial Question was " how do you sharpen your knives." I think a lot have posted, to give some helpful and tech.info. Even if you want to keep doing the same way, which you might think is wrong, I would copy some of the info for future, just in case you might want to upgrade your knives. ????? - - - - - - - - - - - - - Has anyone seen the Kitchen Knives at Lowe's. They are made by " Kitchen Aid " and look pretty good. I lost my Paring Knife about a month ago, so while at Lowe's I bought one for $9.95. I liked the Design. There was a nice varity of other knives. Has anyone else seen them. ??? They were back near the Kitchen Cabinets. Here is the Paring Knife. It holds a good edge. I just touch it up with the steel. The blade is 3 1/2 inches long. It fits my hand well....See MoreI was told that I don't have to sharpen my mulching blade
Comments (9)A sharp blade gives an exquisite cut. I always sharpen mine when I rotate them out. Manufacturers no longer sharpen them really sharp because of morons cutting themselves. Even a mower blade has to be dumbed down like everything else. As for, 'dulling quicker', its true you will lose the razor edge fairly soon, but while you have it, its nice. Then, you're back to where you were with the new blade, which still cuts great. That edge will last awhile depending on how much you use it and whether or not you hit gravel/rocks with it. I do not sharpen new blades before using them, but like I said, I always do later. When a blade gets dull, I take it off and put on another one I prepared earlier. Then when I have a chance, I'll clean the blade I took off, sharpen it with a file (or grinder if its bad), balance, paint and put away for future use. When the tilted-up fan part on the back gets thin, the blade is no longer serviceable. That always happens in my yard before sharpening removes too much material....See Moreediej1209 AL Zn 7
