I am really confused on these, I'm afraid. There is clerodendrum speciosissimum or glorybower, and there is clerodendrum paniculata which is pagoda flower. But I'm seeing them interchanged on some websites. I thought I had them straightened out yesterday, and now I'm back to where I was. Here is a picture of pagoda flower, clerodendrum paniculatum: And one of the full plant. And here is clerodendrum speciosissimum: It would seem the flower heads on paniculatum are conical and more structured looking than the floppy, flatter flower heads on speciosissimum. Am I imagining this? Bihai, I can't tell from your picture, as those flower heads look a lot like paniculatum, too. ??? And am I wrong that speciosissimum is GloryBower, and paniculatum is Pagoda Flower? That's what I read on Dave's Garden, but now I'm soooooooo mixed up! I'm making plant tags for my friend who has found one on her property, and I want to get it right. Help! Marcia

Looks more fungal than bugs. But I agree with Jean. I wouldn't worry. It is the end of August. Are the actual pumpkins developing well? Then not to worry. Keep in mind that once annual plants (and pumpkins are one) begin developing fruits, they throw everything into the fruits. And especially as we move closer to fall, leaves of most species take more damage from many things. You can expect the leaves to look progressively less healthy. If the fruits are developing well, then everything is as it should be. No worries. Nothing to fight.

Yes carol, I should have written Tecoma, rather than the old name Tecomaria. Decades of using old names die with difficulty for some plants. Just as Zauschneria is now Epilobium, depending upon name resistance of the labeler. ---------------------- gardengal, I was only there briefly. But it appears they just paid the landscape maintenance company to throw in new plants to renovate the landscape. The strip mall's owners don't know about suitable plants and design, and apparently the maintenance workers don't care, or know little more. There are going to be problems maintaining their plant choices down the road, and butchering them is likely going to be their solution. The massed grass is in the bed in the upper right (sparse and has not filled in yet). The bird of paradise and kangaroo paw is in the distant bed in the upper left of the original photo.
