Idyll # 493 November by Thomas Hood
Comments (103)I was to busy yesterday to check in. I'm thankful to have had family and friends to share our meal and day. Today I am thankful to sit and enjoy quite time. LOL Sleet yesterday and cold cold this morning. I'm trying to work up the nerve to go walk. Maybe I will just walk farther tomorrow when the weather moderates. Bug nice surprise that DS will be or is home. Cyn what a pretty picture for Marian. Mary, feel better soon. Kathy we had a lot of rain the last couple of days. After such a long dry spell the ground was so hard a lot of it just ran off. I am anxious to go to the creek and see what transpired. Saucy, I need to find a cheese shop. I was looking for Guyere (sp) the other day and couldn't find any. Norma...See MoreWorld Travelers
Comments (57)We just got back from a long trip, mostly in Germany. I can report that in Berlin, there are some restaurants that are at least supposed to be American. I didn't eat in any, but I understand that they are popular with ironic, hip young people and travelers. They have some shockingly un-PC names -- like "White Trash." As a matter of fact, on this trip, my family and I were thinking of what we would put on the menu at a nice, American cuisine restaurant abroad. Here's some of the things we thought of: Turkey - with all the trimmings Crab cakes Jambalaya Lobster New England boiled dinner Fried clams Tex-Mex chili Corn on the cob Pie, especially apple, pumpkin, pecan, and blueberry Barbecue -- lots of kinds! Cole slaw Baked beans Biscuits Meat loaf Navajo fry bread Hot dogs! And hamburgers, too -- why not? Watermelon Fried chicken Chocolate chip cookies Chowders Cornbread Fish fry PBJ What did we forget?...See MoreChristmas gift ideas needed (kinda long)
Comments (21)I was going to suggest too, things to do on the trip on the plane to keep them busy. Small items and things when used up can get rid of so they aren't over burden with too much. Yes, check the library for an up to date book of Germany and they can check out what there is to see. Journals are excellent to have, light ones though and make sure you have pens extra in case of losing one pen. Or run out of ink. Make sure you have a good camera for all of you to use and take pictures of. Maybe a scrapbook for them to make up about their trip when they come home? The library may even have language tapes to listen, can check on that too. Check out travel sites for good ideas to bring and see with you all. Rick Steves? has travelled with his kids and wife all over and so he should have good ideas. I know the one thing he suggested on tv was with kids is that they carry their back bag and only what they can carry is all they can have in it so that way you aren't loaded down with huge suitcases which you do not want in those countries. You want to bring and be very light, so rehearse way ahead and everyone pack all they want to bring on their trips, see if they can carry their backpacks with it all in? What can be illiminated? What is really necessary. Or bring stuff that can be dumped over there and left behind. There is nothing worse then too much stuff and being a hinder and ruining a great trip. Also make sure everyone has good comfortable walking shoes to walk lots. Check weather if you need to bring umbrellas or not or what? Less is better remember so check it all out ahead of time....See MoreMarch 2021 Week 3
Comments (36)I have a bunch of greens sitting on one of the deck tables--they've been there for a couple weeks. I've no idea what I'm doing. I want to take some to Lincoln, but have to see if John will be available to help keep an eye on them. I've already put a bunch in my containers on the deck. I don't know what it "dipped" to here last night--my min max thermometer says 26. I know that wasn't right--I must have forgotten to clear it. But dip, it did. It was 38 at 9 am. Cold enough that Garry and I decided it's a good day to stay inside. EWWWW. Low tonight might be 36, tomorrow night, 33. Yuck! I just got Native American Seed's newest catalog. It is the most amazing thing--any of the rest of you get it? I told GDW I think I'll have to send them a donation, even though I don't need to buy anything. It's that great. Chock full of excellent information, and as a bonus, got Nat'l Geographic's survey, too, with great survey questions. Guess I'll go online to do the survey. I don't know if I'm done planting seeds YET! lol. I saw a couple basils I'm missing. Might have to order them. And I was SO late with these that recently came from Pinetree: Statice (do any of you grow it here? Why I thought I needed it, I've no idea. Illumination Amarantha; Chives; the broccolini; and Tulsi. And then discovered I hadn't planted the last pepper seeds--aggghhhh. So got them in: Fatalii, Yellow Bhut Jolokia. Gorilla Griller, and Trinidad Scorpion Butch T. Fun stuff. And now I must prepare to be done! I'm out of seed starting mix, and Walmart doesn't have any and the orders online are backed up. Hmm. Maybe Lowe's in Muskogee has some. Okay--GDW says he's good to go. :). Bye all....See MoreLars
