How should I color coordinate my room?

So I have gray curtains on my windows right now. I prefer blue bedsheets and I have a white bedskirt I have yet to put in my room. All of my furniture is dark wood, the walls are white (not eggshell or off white), and the floors are dark mahogany wood. I haven't bought a rug yet. I don't have the best eye for interior design, so I decided to ask the experts 😊How should I color coordinate my room?

Ash, you need to share pics or at least, tell us more. Like which specific shade of gray and blue are you using...charcoal/ robins egg or barely there gray/navy or???? What feeling do you want in the room? What is your style? How bright is the space and what are the lamps? Blah,blah...

Your choices so far sound fine. Easy to work with, easy to add more colour if you wish or not. Have you picked a duvet/coverlet/comforter yet?

Yes- unfortunately the existing piece is actually probably a vanity masquerading as a desk (also a Facebook market find). It is not very ergonomic at all- it sort of traps your thighs in that upside down U thing and thus my husband won’t use it. I thought he’d eventually cave, but 2+ months of passive aggressively moving his paperwork and iPad off of our dining room table and onto our “desk” isn’t working. I’ve got to either replace it or find a 5 foot centerpiece for our diningroom.

I have a northeast facing dining room that was wallpapered in blue damask for many years. That combined with cherry and mahogany furniture made the room seem very dark. So what to do, since I also did not want to replace all the furniture? 1. I painted the room--walls and trim--in B. Moore's Linen White. This is a very creamy warm white, in the yellow hue family. It's amazing how just that color brightens the space. 2. I replaced the dull formal Oriental rug with a light herringbone casual one. It's made of PET, which is recycled plastic. It's amazing how soft and pretty it is, it feels like cotton, but PET is easy to clean. You can find a lot of them on Annie Selke's website. 3. I selected a beautiful flowing floral pattern fabric for curtains and shades. This happy fabric in robin's egg blue, greens and reds brightens up the room and the style adds a lively dash of color without blocking any of the natural light. 4. I painted one of the wood pieces with chalk paint. This adds a bit of whimsy and lessens the formality of the brown furniture. Hope that helps!

Can you return it and get a smaller one? (I admit I think your fireplace wall is lovely and I personally wouldn't ruin it with a television. But I am a tiny minority who has lived without television for almost 30 years.) Is there another room in which to put it, or do you prefer to use this room for watching it?

New white curtains. Or blue. The gray looks so sad. Are you going to have a comforter or bedspread? You should pick one, then pull colors from it.

(Your walls really don’t look plain white. If they are, what color is that door?)

I think the gray looks fine, and I'm not even a fan on gray.

You could stick with a tight blue and gray palette, or you could bring in a 3rd color, and really you could go in a lot of directions with that. I would suggest shopping for either comforter/duvet covers or rugs that incorporate the colors you have. Some of those will pull in additional colors, and you can see what you like. After all, textile designers have a good eye for what works, and you'll get a sense of what's available.
