Need ideas to cover very large area of hardwood flooring
Comments (1)Did a similar thing in our first house. Lucky for us I was working at a floorcovering wholesaler at the time so got a great deal on some commercial carpet with a pattern I loved. Got it cut into on chunk about 12 x14 and another about 5x9. Had the edge bound and a non-stick coating applied to the back of the smaller piece. The smaller one when at the stair landing (reason for non-stick) and we put a nice carpet pad under the larger piece and that went in the living room with about 2- 3' to spare around the perimeter of three sides (fourth was open to entry, stairs and kitchen....See MoreI am in need of a statement wall idea
Comments (2)Art -- something like this would make a world of difference, especially if you replaced your dried plants with fresh flowers. https://fineartamerica.com/products/celia-thaxters-garden-isles-of-shoals-maine-childe-hassam-art-print.html...See MoreNeed living room large wall decor ideas!
Comments (16)I would like to see built-ins on each side of fireplace. Tv on one side, bottom of built-ins storag for some toys books etc above. Group sofa chairs around fireplace of course leave space for kids to play. On long wall find old pic books maybe Audubon prints or flowers, take them to craft store find ready made frames then have them cut mats then frame them. they should show you how to put them together. also pics of kids on built-in shelves. Built-ins can be made from knock-down cabinets....See MoreAdvice for decorating large, very tall wall with niches in family room
Comments (8)Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I've considered closing the niche above the fireplace, but that will leave only 6" on the mantle which isn't much space for decor. I agree that it would allow more options for art up above. I do have a large chest to the left of the fireplace right now. The trouble with that is there is little space for traffic between it and the end of the sectional. If I shift it left, it looks off balance and is facing a direct walking path. And I don't really want to rotate the sectional against the windows although that would improve the narrow traffic problem. All the above pics were taken after the wood floor was refinished, but before I put any accessories, decor, etc. back up. I wanted to show a "blank slate". (I am working on getting an area rug) If I stick with everyone's suggestions, my next questions are: How high up should I try to decorate the fireplace niche? And should I do anything behind the tv? I've had nothing there and it looks blank, and I've put up a very large piece of art and it looks too busy. It seems like there are too many focal points. Here are some pics that show earlier attempts at decorating. The silver vase with floral is probably close to 48" high. Please ignore the floral behind the tv, that is not normally there. Pic #1 was right before they moved the furniture out for the flooring, so all my extras were already in storage....See Morecawaps
