Please! Recommendations for "true" light gray paint color

Hi! I would appreciate your recommendations for a light gray paint color. I am looking for a true gray that does not read silver, blue, green or beige. I have tried samples of BM Edgecomb Grey, Silver Satin and Gray Tint, but none of the colors seem quite right. They are still reading too dark and/or wrong hue. The paint color is for a dark hallway (without natural light) and common room (more light). I'd the soft gray to contrast with white wainscoting on the wall. Thank you for any recommendations!!

It’s really dependent on your lighting. I am in the process of doing my basement, and what was “true” gray on the chip was purple on my walls. The color we went with is called Wheat Bread (Behr) and it looks gray. What I did was get a few samples, put them up on the wall, and then wrote the “problem” with the color on the chip - too purple, too yellow, etc. Then went back to the paint store with the chips and found similar colors that corrected for the problem. Put a total of six colors on the wall before I found one that looked right. Good luck! It can be frustrating.

I agree that it depends on your tastes and needs and the kinds of light your home, the wall substance, the flooring, etc, but we had good luck with a Sherwin Williams color called Gray Screen. You can see it in the pics below or search our My Houzz tour which was titled something like Eclectic DIY in Rhode Island—something like that.

I'm a fan of BM Revere Pewter. You can google images of it. For carpet and drapery, well, without seeing the room or its contents, it's very hard to say, but I'd keep the carpet absolutely neutral. I'd match the carpet color to the wall color and go a shade slightly lighter or darker, depending on the look she's after. For drapes, I'd just look for something that incorporates the other colors in the room; maybe a floral or stripe that has the blue, rose, and a bit of gray.

I just painted my bathroom SW Silverplate. It is a cool light gray. I think it would look good with the stainless in your kitchen. I just took the photo -- I don't have all the trim up yet, but I hope this helps.

lazygardens I love that blog site too. I could never understand why all beige samples read green to me until i read her blog and realized much of my furnishings and drapery were green which were reflecting on my perception of the color on my walls. Aktillary nobody else's use of a color in their home will read the same way in your home. you have to do the sample boards and move them around. When I'm lazy I paint the colors on paper plates and tape them to the wall; that also isolates the color with a white background instead of the background color of what's already on the wall which will also affect your perception of the color chip. It's been 2 months and my paperplates are still taped all over the walls. When company comes over and they give me odd looks I just tell them "don't ask" ! Good luck

Thank you very much megs1030 for those suggestions of Quicksilver and Icicle. We’ll take a look at those colors. Patricia Colwell, thanks for writing as well. Actually, our trim color will be a white - just not a stark white. It will not be a cream color. celerygirl, thank you as well for the Ice Cube color suggestion. We have a few other colors to consider now, so thank you all. Any other wall color suggestions would be welcomed. We love the idea of a grayish blue for a beach condo, just not too dark of a gray or too baby or too bright blue. Something serene and relaxing, like Reflection, just maybe a bit bolder would be ideal. We’re not too keen on greenish grays. Thank you!

Sherwin Williams' light french gray - one of the few without a strong undertone steering it into noticeably warm or cool gray territory. We used it throughout the house when we moved here in August 2017. :)
