What rose would you put here?
Comments (23)Kate - Thanks, again. I'm really liking the idea of Starry Night. The picture makes it look like there's more empty space next to KO than there really is, so if I was going to use it, it would probably work best on the next tier down. Here's an older picture of the circle of golden eunomys. There was originally another golden eunomys in the middle, but I took it out so I could put the rose there. Bodica - I did have Coreopsis planted in front of the KO, but I decided that it did have more of the cottage look and it didn't go with the rest of the plants, so I recently took it out and decided I would try the daylilies. The backyard isn't landscaping anything like the front yard. I adore roses and daylilies, so that's pretty much all I have back there. It doesn't look quite this good right now, because I've replaced alot of my roses for more disease resistant varieties and they're pretty small, but this is what it looked like a couple of years ago. Comments (7)I agree with adding the column. What is the overall style of your home? In our neighborhood, there are many "vintage open floor plans," circa 1900-1930, and all have columns between the living and dining rooms. I love the combination of connectedness and distinction between the spaces. The square column pictured is in the style of our area homes. But if you have a more modern aesthetic or neighborhood, perhaps do a search on Houzz to see examples of simple and more creative columns. Personally, I really dislike pony walls. They're elbow-catchers, clutter-catchers, etc. I agree they look unfinished, and they are structurally suspect. We have one in my organization's recently-renovated open workspace, and people are forever running into it. The contractor tried to talk our management out of it -- said that it always leads to dissatisfaction because they inevitably get knocked loose (this one's stand-alone, not anchored to a wall). It's not wobbly per se, but it does not inspire architectural confidence. Plus, all us office drones end up leaving piles of files and coffee mugs on it (it's a little higher than bar height, perfect for leaning and chatting and leaving things behind). Good luck and have fun!...See MoreWhat blinds/drapes/window treatments would you put here?
Comments (5)The dining room: Love the wall color, and I know you donâÂÂt want to hear this, but I love the color of the furniture. I think you could have an elegant, almost Gustavian look going on in there. I would change out the hardware to something in a brushed nickel finish. Love the chandy. I would want drapery panels in here, and would treat each window separately. Something like this might work, and would pair the rich wall color with the lighter finished furniture: audrey drape Then something simple for the chair seats: grace teal Try the trio of vases you have on the window seat in the FR as a centerpiece grouping on the DR table if you go with these fabrics. If you donâÂÂt want to use the cabinets for showing dishes, you could get some of the window wallpaper in a simple frost and cover the glass. etched glass wallpaper for windows Gathered sheer fabric is an alternative, but I am not sure that works with the style of the furniture. Or, take the cabinet out completely and use it in the sitting room as a bookcase. Replace it in the DR with another side piece, perhaps a solid wood piece in the finish color of the tabletop. I will say, tho, that I like the cabinet in the DR in part because it balances the height of the windows. For the sitting room, it is hard to say because we donâÂÂt know what the furniture or flooring will be like. But I would again think about panels, perhaps something in a textured linen or chenille, for a more casual and cozy feel. For the FR, I would like to see woven wood blinds or regular wood blinds to bring the floor color up to the window level. You could add fabric valances above the windows for some softness and color, and do matching or coordinating cushions on the window seats, and pillows for the sectional. You have a lovely home - how fun to have lots of great spaces to decorate....See MoreWould you put a window cover here?
Comments (21)Hi chloenkitty, You have a beautiful home with wonderful views to the outside. As a Interior designer I would suggest to apply a soft, translucent fabric such as two sheer curtains for the window treatment to avoid obstructing the view. Additionally, if you want to tie the dining area with the kitchen you can add a topper with the same fabric you use for the kitchen window without applying anything to the small side windows. This suggestion coordinates well with the style of the overall space, such as crystal chandeliers, white cabinets, contemporary tufted dining seating, and contemporary furniture in the living area. With anything you decide to choose, please attach pictures of the final result. Good luck!...See MoreJen Hans
