Keep wallpaper? or paint and Stencil?
Comments (42)If you like staging, why not get into it? I purchased my sofa from a woman who did it for a condo complex, and she was busy. She had her 2-guys-and-a-van that she used, and she purchased high quality stuff off Craigslist and then sold it (she didn't do storage). I believe you just have to introduce yourselves to realtors as a kind of internship (prob. super low pay at first, but that's a very positive perk for the realtor to offer his/her clients...Of course you would just have to use the clients stuff if you don't want to "own" anything. Many folks (not you clearly) need an objective third party when getting a house ready to sell (the queries on the subject here are proof of that)....See Morewallpaper over lead paint; how to remove the wallpaper??
Comments (6)It depends a lot how the paper was put on and what kind of adhesion was used how hard you will work to get it off. When you wet it and warm it you want to get it to the point where the paper lifts right off. The issue after that will be the remaining glue. This is where it can get really hard to completely get the glue off to the point where you can paint it without disturbing the lead paint. Also, one thing you may discover is that you do not have a fine finish that will look good painted on the plaster underneath, and that there is in fact no paint at all of any kind in some rooms. They will need a new skim coat anyway. It then becomes: do you have enough glue off to adhere a skim coat? Whatever you do, just be careful. People get all bent out of shape about asbestos and mold but neither of those are really much of a danger in an acute exposure situation, but "lead stupid" is forever . It dissolves in water, it can get dispersed in the air, etc. and if you get it all over the place it can get VERY expensive and hard to clean it out of the house afterward....See Morewallpaper vs paint
Comments (19)It's difficult to install and remove wallpaper in a stairwell. If you find someone to do it, that's great, but we did not get any offers when we went to sell our last house until we removed the wallpaper in the stairwell. IMO the wallpaper was not great (might have been there 20 years), but not terrible. Clearly all the buyers didn't want to remove it themselves. Also, while grasscloth is very popular now, I am old enough to remember when it wasn't. It was popular in the '60's-'70's, but wasn't in the '80's and '90's. Anything you put up now will probably be dated in approximately ten years. So part of this decision should take into account how long you expect to be in the house. That being said, in general, I love wallpaper and am getting ready to put it in my dining room. :-)...See MoreNeed Interior Design Opinions on Paint/Wallpaper/Accent walls
Comments (11)No wallpaper on the TV wall, it's too distracting. I would wait to decide on whether or not to change the paint color on the TV wall until you finish decorating that room. For example, the area rug in there seems boring to me. That room would be so improved with a lively rug such as a hand woven tribal. Or if you like a more traditional rug, a hand-knotted Persian is always perfect. The paint colors and the wainscoting are fine, and you can continue the waiscoting in the hallway if you want. I would not paint the stairway a different color. You don't want the house to give a choppy feeling, especially with the open plans they have nowadays. If you are in love with a particular wallpaer, you can cut a few rectangular pieces and put them up spaced, and frame them with pieces of molding and they look as though they are works of art. This looks very nice in a dining room. I don't particularly care for the wallpaper you chose. It is very dense and a bit odd. I would find not restful or happy or inspiring. If you are bound and determined to have it somewhere, maybe have it as an accent wall behind your headboard in the master bedroom. Often people go bold with the wallpaper in the first floor powder room, but I would find it too disturbing for even there. I can't see the alligator piece very well, but I am wondering if it doesn't belong in a children's room? I don't understand what you are asking about the bathroom....See MoreLane S
