Shelf liner for painted wood pantry shelves
Comments (9)I have a large walk-in pantry with painted shelves. I had trouble with shelf liner sticking to the paint, and curling up at the edges, so eventually I came up with a more permanent solution. I bought self-stick vinyl floor tiles with a smooth surface, and put them on the shelves. They are easy to cut and install, and very easy to clean. I liked the results so much I put them on every closet shelf in my house! I did consider putting laminate on the shelves, but I don't have the necessary tools to cut laminate, and for a pantry the size of mine it would have been quite expensive, especially if I had to pay for installation....See MoreShould I paint inside of black, glass front cabinet white?
Comments (6)It's not weird at all. I wouldn't do white white; I'd do a soft grey or something the complements other things. You see something similar in old china and book cabinets which are often lined with fabric. Oh....is this actually IN your kitchen? In that case the white would be totally fine. If it's alone in a room by itself, THEN go with an interior color that ties into something else....See MoreShould I paint the wood bookcases in my library?
Comments (20)I dont think wood need to be a super-expensive species to have nice color/grain worth preeserving - it adds interest and texture to your room. For future reference, If its anything reasonably knot free I would do a wood stain long before I would ever think of painting. Youd have to sand anyway to get a paintable surface and with such nice flat surfaces would be a breeze with a sander attached to a shop vac. Wood stains come in a huge range of colors - and if those werent enough you can get custom mixed - EG another wood tone, a color in your carpet, etc....See Moreshould I paint my mantle?
Comments (43)I agree with "bethperson" about removing the top uprights. They are drawing the eye to the ceiling rather than framing the fireplace. I would not cover the niche with doors as it looks spectacular with the horse and other objects in it. I would kill for a spot like that to display things and make seasonal statements. I might consider a lighter color on the back wall of the niche to provide a contrasting backdrop for darker objects. You appear to have lighter paint behind the sofa so I would try a bit of that on the rear wall of the niche. I also agree with "bethperson's" idea of beefing up the mantel. I agree that the wood seems a bit orangey but if you are planning to replace your floors someday you might want to decide then on a color or wood stain that compliments the floor. Until then just removing the top uprights will minimize the overwhelming effect of the wood color. Also, I believe that wood is not a precious substance. It takes a little courage to paint or stain it sometimes but unless it is a pricey, endangered or historically antique wood just do what makes you happy. That's what a house of your own is for....See Moreedmontongirln18
