Bedrosians Cloe tile spacing/grout
Comments (90)Hi everyone! We are installing white cloe tile in our kitchen but don’t want the kitchen to feel too “sterile”. I’ve been reading through the comments on many cloe posts and am leaning towards laticrete bright white grout. Despite the name, it seems like a warmer white? Anyone who has used this color grout, do you agree? Would this be a good option for us? If anyone has an other recommendations, I’m open to hearing them. Here is one side of the kitchen (we will be replacing the microwave and cabinet above stove with hood and backsplash to the top) Counters: viatera Calacatta sol Cabinets: SW pure white Floors: global gem heartland Champaign...See Morebacksplash to go with silestone Calcutta gold counter
Comments (2)Not sure how to link another thread, but check out this thread. She has the same countertops and a grey island. Her kitchen came out gorgeous: Is Cloe tile from big box stores & Bedrosians directly the same tile?...See MoreWhat's the Matte equivalent of Bedrosian Cloe (White)?
Comments (20)Well, it occurred to me that I have samples of Makoto at home, so I tested them for cleaning! Here are the results. * Tested tiles: Makoto midori green & kumo gray, which are both matte. Also two glossy tiles for comparison - Cloe and Traditions (Bedrosians' basic subway tile). Test (1) Splashed them with water as they laid flat on my counter. I have hard water (my city is 240ppm if you want to compare). The green Makoto tile showed significant water stains when dried (yikes!), the gray Makoto looked a lot better. The glossy tiles looked fine overall but did have fingerprint smudges and water spots if you looked at from a certain angle. See first photo. Test (2) Soap scum and kid bath paint (the red spot you see on the tile). All the tiles showed those marks and all washed away equally well. The matte did not feel any harder to scrub than the glossy. Test (3) Put them in the shower in vertical position. This simulates the actual position they will dry in, which apparently made a big difference. The green Makoto now came out just fine! See second photo. Based on this, my conclusion is that matte tiles are harder to clean only if (1) you have hard water, (2) tiles are dark and (3) tiles lie horizontally on your floor. Knowing this now I will never use black tiles on floors!...See MoreBedrosians Cloe install problem
Comments (7)I found the tile installer from someone posting pictures of their new backsplash. This person let me see in person the same tile installed in their kitchen and I went with their recommended installer. He has 20+ years of experience. Unfortunately I didn't inspect their kitchen really closely. I didn't want to be disrespectful. I had talked with 4 other installers and this was the first one I'd seen their work in person. I've been reading all the discussions on Houzz about this tile and asked questions about lippage, edging and grout spacing/color. So many people said they had no problems with lippage and recommended just bumping the tile together which leaves about 1/16 in. I decided that if so many found that that was what worked I'd go for it. Unfortunately I didn't see any red flags until mid installation when I came in to see the progress. Seeing the schluter cut so awkwardly was the clue that maybe I wasn't going to get a problem free install I'd hoped for....See Moredcfixerupper
