Comments (34)The answer for a dummy thermostat? Go buy a battery operated thermostat put it on the wall. Insert batteries, remember to replace those batteries annually. OR find one that doesn't need batteries. The bigger question is: what will you do to the actual thermostat to hide it's location? That is next level, call your HVAC contractor. The solution: "What's it worth to you"? Yeah when people are reminded "real solutions" cost "real money" -- what do they do... belch on a forum board as it were. Comments (6)You are way to hung up on glass thickness and dead air space, when what you should be focusing on is the laminate thickness. A laminate thickness of .90 mil is going to give you greater sound abatement than a .30 mil. As I said before, you need to ask what the OITC is. There are other factors that determine STC other than glass thickness or the size of the gap between 2 panes of glass. Varying the thickness of the glass is also a factor in sound abatement. Again, you need to find out the OITC and quit driving youraelf crazy trying to understand something that has little consequence. If the salesman continues to dodge your questions then tell him to give you a call once he finds out what it is and in the meantime, find another company that has a salesman who knows what he is selling and can answer your questions. This guy you have now sounds more interested in selling you something than in solving a problem. Also make sure you get the OITC and not the STC as the STC in your situation is not as important....See MoreWindow selection for sound reduction
Comments (11)With the laminated glass, I think the windows will be as good as I can get with the sound reduction. I guess my only worry is the slider in the hallway...the doors butt up against each other. THis allows for an 8 foot wide opening when opened. I dont know if I should do this for a couple reasons: - It is so hot here that you try to keep the doors closed - There are a lot of reptiles, scorpions, wasps, bugs, etc. and so I try to keep all doors closed. In fact, from leaving doors open briefly, I have gotten 3 snakes, 2 gigantic lizards, a bird, and a kangaroo rat in the house. - Mostly I am worried that sound will come through the opening where they meet... janniecone, thank you. I dont know if I am using storefront glass. It is coming from a custom glass company in California. It has to match the current glass, below. Lazy gardens, thank you! That is a great link. I will pass this on to the contractor. Thanks! Current glass: Similar doors:...See MoreHU-991102363
