You need to remember that the windows are only a piece of the overall puzzle for sound attenuation. That being said without more info I don't even need to list to your links to answer a definitive maybe. Impossible to tell without more info.

Ask everyone for air infiltration number and compare those in addition to the STC.

From my understanding the testing procedures developed by ASTM and AAMA for STC were to require all windows to be tested in an operational condition. This test would take air infiltration into account, so therefore you go solely by the STC rating. Typically you do not See much, if any difference in STC ratings in new windows even though one might have a lower air infiltration rating.

What do they consider those "operational conditions"? Post up the data please.

I would have to search for that data but dont see the point Plus I wouldn’t understand it anyways. Can you give me air infiltration specs in the Simonton I can tell you the speed of sound if you like. What would the STC rating be for a window with the lower air numbers? At my pay scale all I can go by is the tested STC Number. I think we both know air infiltration will make a difference but the big question is at what point. My guess is you’re guessing and have about as much proif as I do.

You made the claim about STC being relative to Air Infiltration and then cited that test paper. Figured your would have had that data and the proif.

You were the one to disregarded Simonton due to there air numbers before I butted in, I assumed you would have some data that was relevant. My data was merely to show that they were actually tested as operating units. Since you made the original statement about in regards to Simonton I would put the burden of proof upon you which I doubt you have. I only advised the poster to see if they can find a tighter window that also has a laminated option. If the home is made of block, its likely somewhere in a storm zone so there should be plenty of options for a window with laminated glass. Hope that helps. “Okay” then, what other brands should they use , Florida is not the Mecca of window manufacturers,what Is the magic air number that is better than okay? Do we multipy the air number by the STC and divide by 20 to get the real STC rating?

I understand that "traffic" noise is hardest to prevent. What about engine noise? The most noise comes from people with trucks/cars that have modified their exhaust system. That should be much easier to prevent right? From a couple of videos I saw on Youtube, Laminated glass windows almost prevent all the lawn mower noise.

The higher the frequency, the easier to cancel out in my observations. So yes, laminated glass will help with those.

Adding a storm window may be a viable option, not sure if your existing windows would work with them.

@toddinmn @Windows on Washington Ltd my current windows need to be replaced as they have a lot of issues as this point. Replacing the windows are expensive and I want to pick the windows with the highest STC ratings available in Jacksonville, FL. Unfortunately the Millard Quiteline is not available here. The only windows that I have found to reduce noise so far is the PGT sound and security and the Simonton with the laminated glass option.

I want to do my research before I spend the money since there is no going back once I get them installed.

Don’t know that area and those are the main 2 that pop up. Not sure a STC rating of 35 would meet your expectations, to do better you would need something like the Styleline that uses a another layer Of glass and airspace. Do you know the STC of the PGT? You can try to compare the air infiltration numbers between the 2 , but they are not easy to find.

Another thing is that the house has no furniture inside and if someone talks you can hear the echo. That could be making noises seem louder?
