Decent Haul
Comments (18)Hee hee, thanks, Jeff! First, I have to say...it took me a VERY LONG TIME to grow those antlers!! Yes, great haul, Ryan! I think I would've tossed the babe! JK! To add my 2 cents: I've never before seen an Adromischus filicaulis ssp filicaulis! :) Thanks for that! The 2nd looks somewhat like Sedum pachyphyllum, but I can't say for sure. I once had a Kalanchoe synsepala f. dissecta (as Jeff has named). What you show there is why is is sometimes called Walking Kalanchoe. :) Love the red margins! Nice Leuchtenbergia! The reddish-brown-leaved plant after that is Lenophyllum reflexum (I believe). The next Crassula looks like it belongs with the nudicaulis colony. =D (group) As Brad said, next is Agave utahensis ssp eborispina, adding its common name Ivory-Spined Agave. So, I'm guessing that fabulous clump of variegated Gasteria came without a species name? What a beaute!! If not Huernia, then perhaps Piaranthus...although "round" blooms don't exactly fit either..unless the flower petals were bent back (?). I think the next is more likely a Gasteria glomerata than an armstrongii (nitida). On the 1st crested Echeveria, are the leaves fuzzy or smooth? Hard to say on the 2nd crested. Might need to see a regular rosette grow from it...or at least get flowers. :) Moving along...Looks like Crassula marchandii. Nice little plant! Cute little Crassula...looks somewhat like C. brevifolia but not. I like it! Ruschia like mine too...I believe it was R. crassa too (white flowered). Thanks for sharing with us, Ryan!...See MoreSo let me tell you about my flight to NY, NY
Comments (9)That's air travel...especially in iffy spring weather conditions. I've always had a rule about flying. My driving radius is 5 hours. I learned a long time ago that when I factored in travel time back and forth to the airport, probable delays and comfort, I fly only when it's more than a 5 hours drive. When I started working, I would fly into Pittsburgh (from PHL)...I learned the hard way that the(at most) 5 hour drive was less than the average plane trip time..door to door. Same with going down to Va....See MoreUsing a travel agent vs. finding a flight on your own
Comments (30)sjerin, you won't know until you're on the ship or not if the motion will affect you. Be sure to bring some Dramamine, ginger capsules or motion sickness patches with you and take/use them if you encounter rough seas before you start to feel queasy. We took a cruise through the Panama Canal in January and for most of the trip it was so smooth it felt like we were on land, but after we left the canal's east end and entered the Atlantic Ocean we hit some pretty rough seas. The waves were big enough to make the ship pitch back and forth despite the stabilizers and many of the passengers got sick. I took Dramamine as soon as I felt it start rocking and did not get sick. Hubby waited until he was feeling sick to take any medication and it was too late. He had one miserable night. I think if you're prepared you'll be fine. Have fun - cruises are a fabulous way to travel!...See MoreSurvival tips for really long flights?
Comments (48)A good friend of mine knits while travelling. For the first few years after 9/11, she was unable to use knitting needles, but now people can do so. Ambien. I've never tried the stuff, but I've heard so many stories of diverse reactions, l certainly wouldn't want to experiment in the air. Alcohol. If you can handle a drink or three on the ground, go ahead, but note that high altitudes will make the stuff go to one's head much faster than on the ground. Cut yourself off sooner. Unless you like airplane toilets, cutting back on diuretics may be indicated. Although, yes, it's a good excuse to get up and move occasionally. If you are sensitive to any foods, avoid those. Those compression socks sound like an excellent idea! Reading material is essential. A magazine or two, a paperback, an e-reader... I'm not afraid of flying (momentary holding of breath as we take off and land aside). My problem is the extreme discomfort at being folded into seats not meant for tall people with bad knees. Hence I always aim to get aisle seating. Since my last flight, I now have a bad ankle. At any rate, due to my size and leg issues, it is impossible for me to sleep on planes. I suspect not even morphine would do it... i do try to sneak a leg into an edge of that aisle where it won't trip anyone, and drowse a bit, but that trolley (which needs the full aisle) comes by every 30 minutes! At 2 am, really???...See Morededtired
