Help! Planting 20 trees tomorrow and I need quick advice
Comments (12)I talked to my husband when he got home from work last night. We're not using any of those bags of soil. We're using all native soil. We've also decided to plant these trees over 2 days. He works second shift so we don't have all day to do it. He's just going to dig a hole in a part of our yard and then when he's done with it will fill it with some topsoil or something. Funny that someone brought up a tiller. We already tried that idea. Well, sort of. We tried to rent one from Home Depot earlier this week, and they said we couldn't rent it yet because it's too muddy outside and they don't want any mud getting on the machine. We told the guy we would never return the machine with any mud on it but he insisted no one can rent the tiller yet. If all we were doing was planting trees it would be one thing but once we plant we are committed to putting up vole fencing around it. We've already got all the poles put up. Where we are planting we can see vole trails everywhere. Not to mention we also have to stake these trees (I stake every tree I plant for 2 seasons) because they are going to be in the prevailing wind section of our yard. The trunks and branches on these 2 foot European Hornbeam fastigiatas are so tiny! They look like they could snap right off. I smiled to myself this morning when I re-read my original post. I was completely panicked when I wrote it. I'm calm about it now. We're planting half today and staking and fencing them, and then the other half tomorrow on his day off. It'll be fine. I see people on videos all the time dig a hole to plant a tree and put the dirt back in and have enough to backfill, but we never do. And we put every bit of dirt we dig out of the hole on a tarp so as not to lose any of it but we still don't have enough....See MorePlease help me cope
Comments (10)I am so sorry, deniecy, that you are in the midst of such a heart wrenching situation. I am so sorry that your DH has been stricken with such a terrible illness. I wish I knew the right words that could help you thru this most difficult time. I thought hard about what I could offer as helpful suggestions to help you to deal with all of the issues surrounding this situation. I know, though, that it is very important for you to stay "strong". You need to do this firstly for yourself and secondly because the burden of care will most probably rest upon your shoulders. I would think that you should take care of you first. You will be no good to yourself and eventually if things worsen you will need as much strength as possible to deal with it. Also, you have a DD that needs you. I don't know if you are sinking into depression. If so, a visit to the doctor might be in order. There are meetings you can attend (if you can find one in your area) for families of Loved Ones with terminal illnesses. They may be able to offer you support, hope and direct you to helpful resources. Knowing that you were informed that your DH's illness is terminal takes away all your Hope for any possible recovery. That is so tough to live with as all you can do is wait. Wondering if you tried to pursue every other possible treatments that are available? This is certainly not a situation that you can distance yourself from. I think you are going to need Help to get through this. I Hope you will reach out for it. I Hope that tender Angels will come to your aid and surround you and your little family as you travel through this most difficult time....See MorePlease help me with whatever advice/input you have
Comments (15)No offense, but I think it's a really bad idea to have your Mom's DH talk to your DH about it. In fact, I think if I was DH I would really be offended. The thing is, pretty much all of what you described as out of control is just plain old parenting differences and SS's personality. And I'm sure a lot has to do with his current situation. None of it, imo, is really out of control or crazy. I can see if SS was wiping boogers on your parents at dinner or hitting them, your daughter etc as out of control. I think it would go better if you just flat out said to your husband that SS's behavior (shouting at dinner, etc) in front of your parents really embarasses you and your parents are kind of put off by it. I would accept that much better than my spouse's parents trying to tell me whats wrong with my kid. And maybe, with all that's gone on in your situation, you can suggest parenting classes to help SS deal. This might also help DH with guilty parenting. Cause really, a professional would probably get through to him better than your parents. Unless your parents have had kids in SS situation. Because I could easily see your husband brushing them and their suggestions off because they've never had to co-parent their kid with a crazy alcoholic. KWIM? And also, I think your husband may feel he is really in a tough spot. He has you to worry about, with all that just happened. Worrying about SS and his safety, I can easily see taking care of back talking as very low on his priority list right now. And he just may plain feel hounded from all sides if your parents start in. A professional would be much easier on him. Just my 2 cents....See MoreCan you help my terrible looking Knock Outs?
Comments (14)Hi Jessica Can you that another photo of the top knockout. On the left side about 18 inches up where the bunching growth is located. I'm not sure whats going on there. Other than that a good pruning is called for. When pruning cut back to where the center of the cane (pith) is white. As mentioned above check how much sunlight they receive and may be a covering of mulch just keep it back a bit from the rose canes. Paul Zimmerman does have some of the best pruning videos out there and it is much easier to see him prune and explain at the same time. Try if you can to post that additional photo. So we can be sure your knockout does not have a disease....See MoreKen "Fruity Paws" (N-Va 7a)
