We just did this in our bathrooms (still works in progress -- the grout just went in last week). In the master bath I used a darker brown grout in the accent mosaic tiles at the top of the shower and used a light beige grout for the rest of the bathroom (travertine tiles). Downstairs (not totally grouted yet) I again used the light beige grout for the field tile (again travertine) and will be using a bright white grout in the crystal marble mosaic accent strip. The master bath (which is all grouted) looks fantastic and I am so happy that I went with two colors of grout. I am sure that the downstairs will look just as good when the white grout goes in.

Thank you so much to everyone for the advice. That's what I was afraid of...too many elements. It's an older home and I want to keep the "charm" of an older space. I was planning to use honed black granite for the counter tops. It's going to primarily function as a kid's bathroom. I am using the antique brick in a few other areas of the house. I recognize the riskiness here, but was hoping it would come across with a charm that is original to the home. The antique brick blends better with the other elements in the home than the carrara does. I'm still not sure how to bring it all together. I know that the white porcelain is timeless. Will the carrara/black and white bath be outdated, considering it's been such a popular choice the last couple of years? What about the subway tiles? thanks all! our house is a multilevel (about 2000 sq ft altogether) - the 3 bedrooms and 1 bath (to be tiled) is on the top floor, then the main entry (already have beige tile) and kitchen (same beige tile) and living room (beige carpet, same as bedrooms) are on the next level. One level down is the other bathroom, hallway to garage/mudroom. Then the lowest level is the basement (carpet). So 1 bathroom pretty much sits on top of the other one. And no tiles will be adjust to another... one time i'm considering for the upstairs bathroom is the one shown on the bathroom thread (see http://www.tileliquidators.biz/jadesage.html and also see the link posted below in a real life bathroom which looks very pretty, but will only using 13x13). The other tiles i'm considering for the downstairs bathroom will be in a random pattern of squares/rectangles: http://www.tileliquidators.biz/canyonsagerandom.html or this color http://www.tileliquidators.biz/canyonmuskrandom.html (the pictures shown aren't very good - the lighting was bad and didn't show the true tile colors - yes I'd seen all 3 tiles in real life). So they are different tiles, but have some similarities (tiles had variation of colors like slate). The downtown hallway is kinda choppy so the tile person thinks it'd work better with the random pattern. @dostk did you ever resolve this? We had a white and gray honed marble mosaic installed and after grouting, the whole area looks completely different. The stone doesn't look anything like the uninstalled mosaic, now it has almost a dull/frosted glass (not shiny) look to it ... is the best way I can try to describe it. Basically it doesn't even read as marble to me anymore. As far as I know, our contractor's installer did not seal it before hand (it was still in the boxes and packing sleeves) and used a sanded grout. The option of sanded or unsanded was never mentioned to us and as newbies we didn't know to ask. Is there anything that can be done to bring the original look back or is this just expected and we should have done a mock up as someone mentioned before?
