Bathroom tile different from hall tile?
Comments (2)Sure. Don't feel compelled to keep repeating a theme. Today's houses are much more eclectic in design....See MoreDifferent flooring for different rooms?
Comments (12)I've been in a lot of show homes lately. Often they have a beautiful laminate or engineered wood floor. And then you get to the stairs, and you can't just lay the engineered wood on the stair, because the cut edge isn't pretty. So they've got a plastic edge on every stair to cover the edge of the flooring material. IMHO, it's like a flashing light that screams "this is not real wood flooring!" And it ruins the effect of the overall floor. But they do it in show homes, so apparently I'm alone in noticing that. On the other hand, I've been in a lot of builder show homes lately that obviously needed to hire a designer. The expensive part of wood on stairs is the edge of each tread. It needs to be shaped and finished. The painted riser is just an effect, less wood look, highlights the wood tread....See MoreTwo different grout colors in one bathroom? Shower niche?
Comments (11)For some reason several notifications popped up today that I never knew were on this thread or a couple others. I thought it may be helpful to some who may read through this (and reassuring to those who were concerned) to see in first two photos the watertight way the shower was structured, then in last two photos are the colors of grout/what I ended up doing (per my original purpose of posting this question on Houzz) : ^^^This red/pink stuff is the waterproof material that was put all over the shower/in niche/etc before the tile went on. And as I had mentioned in prior comments, a large curb was always the plan as you will see in this almost-finished photo :) *Note: The unfinished window is a reflection and not actually in the shower Finally, for those who looked at this thread in search for answers to their own questions about grout colors, I went with Tec Dove Gray Sanded Powergrout on the floor and niche (wherever the hex was), and Tec Silverado Unsanded regular grout on the walls with Powerboost added (to make the unhanded grout a form of Powergrout) on the walls...choosing the lighter gray to soften the bright white so that it would work better with the warm white vanity. The Powergrout has posed no issues whatsoever in the last month since the shower has been used. We did seal the floors/walls for additional mold/mildew/stain resistance. This is a good representation of what the colors of tile and grout look like in reality...the Dove Gray appears a bit softer in person though....See Moredifferent flooring in just one bathroom?
Comments (16)I'll say it again: If you really have every other room (every other bathroom, the kitchen, the laundry room, the great room, the bedrooms and all the livings spaces) in the same wood look tile, and this one bathroom (the kid's hall bath) in a different tile, it will look weird. It's not that using a different tile in a bathroom is weird. It's that choosing just that one place to be different is weird. It would be less weird if it were the primary owner's bath, because then it could be the oasis that @SJ McCarthy is referencing. But the kid's hall bath as oasis?? Well, if you like baths, and don't have a tub in the primary owner's bath, maybe the tub in the kid's bath is your oasis.......See MoreRelated Professionals
