Regarding 'The American Rose Society Book Of Roses'
Comments (54)Here are some others not to forget: Griffeth Buck Vernon Rickard Paul Barden I don't believe Americans are dissinterested in things that were not invented here. We seem to be quite fond of things with European names like Krupps, Braun, and all those other coffee makers. We eat tons of ethnic food. Lots of us are tourists. When the Beatles came out many of us became Anglophiles and a lot of us still think the English cottage garden is the ultimate. We are a country full of appreciative people, IMO. I have never noticed anyone not wanting to buy a rose because it was bred by a non-AMerican. Excuse me for digressing. Anyway even with it's flaws I bet I could really enjoy looking at that book, Devon. I usually check the big Botanica's out from the library but have my easy to hold paperback copy which I enjoy. My library also has The Rose Bible and Antique Roses for the South, both of which were responsible for a number of roses in my garden. Linda...See MoreARS 2010 National Rose Show Results

Comments (16)Hi jin - Thanks again for your encouragement! I believe that ARS posts second place winning photos on their website, while the winning pics are printed in the ARS magazine in the annual spring photo issue and some first place pics are printed in subsequent issues. I heard the head judge Curtis say that this was a magazine contest so that seems to be the focus of where winning photos are showcased. I think the first prize photos are judged together and a "best of the best" is on the magazine cover of the annual issue. My black and white photo is too unconventional to be #1 but I'll be happy for the winning photo and photographer! I'm not sure about entering the calendar contest because the image quality has to be extremely good. My photos are taken on an iPhone 8 with only 12 megapixels. To get the image quality needed for a calendar I need a digital camera with 20-24 megapixels. I've been researching cameras and would appreciate suggestions. I'm not a techie person and working through all the menus in modern digital cameras isn't my idea of fun so if anyone has suggestions on an easy digital camera with 20-24 megapixels I would appreciate it! I don't mind a camera with interchangeable lenses but a really high quality camera with a built in lens would be ok too. flowers - your good wishes are much appreciated! Hoping your spring flush is wonderful! HalloBlondie - thank you so much for your kind comments! In your cold climate it might be awhile before you see some roses but I hope they are really lovely this year, especially your David Austins! You do a great job with your roses! Perma n' Posies - Thanks for your comment! I really appreciate your kind words. Ann...See MoreWhat are we reading in September 2019?
Comments (136)I've finished "Scorched" by Jennifer L. Armentrout, a story about a girl with problems and her love/hate relationship with a young man. Her life is rapidly spiraling out of control, he tries to help, she slips away. It is written alternating between 'her' story and 'his' story, both written in the first person. I would have liked it a lot more if he were able to speak without using the f-bomb in every sentence. That is a big turn-off for me, but I didn't have anything else to read handy, so I stuck with it. I think the author was trying to present a message of hope, of sorts, but the language was very off-putting. Then I read "The Secret Hour", by Luanne Rice. She is among my favorite authors, and I enjoyed this one as I do most of hers. It is a story of love, loss, and second chances. A defense lawyer in a very controversial capital murder trial, raising his two children alone, and a woman searching for her sister. It was hard for me to put it down. I started "Lost Roses" by Martha Hall Kelly. I'm not very far into it, so don't have a 'feel' for it yet, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be much slower going than the last couple of books have been. Rusty...See MoreAnn9BNCalif
