Help me pick a main house color - pics
Comments (17)Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I am going to the paint store tonight to pick up some samples. I will have photos tomorrow to show. I am going to pick up some cooler beige and warm gray colors. This is my short list- Grant Beige, Edgecomb Gray, Bleeker Beige, Shaker Beige, Bennington Gray, Revere Pewter, Coventry Gray. I will also take a look at some cream colors but I am not sure how they will look against my cream colored cabinets. I was hoping for a little contrast. Any other suggestions?...See MoreHelp me pick a MB paint color - lots of pics
Comments (29)Blues and browns together seem very popular right now. Showcase homes last year in our area had a lot of that color scheme ($500k homes). If you like the thought of an accent wall, how about blue walls with one as accent in brown? I ditto the vote on Nadine's 5th one in her second set of mockups. You could add some blue accessories to the bed....some pillows that had both blue and brown and tan in them. I would never have liked that color combo except that I saw it done somewhere (2 were in bedrooms) in 3 of the 6 homes in our Tour of Homes last year that were just gorgeous. Think how sharp and crisp tan khakis look with a blue button-down shirt.....same with your bedding (the pants) and walls (the shirt). Comments (39)It is funny, but I did not change the garage door color. I used MS Paint and it did weird things to the roof too. Looking at it here, it seems like I made the top part brown.... I'd either do the garage door with the 2 light tones or keep it all white. I'd paint it last to see how it looks white first with the new house color. When I was working on the mock up, the lavender was either too strong or too light. I went with too light because the next step up was garish. Our lavender is sometimes very subtle, but when you see the nearby white, you realize it is not white too. It also looks different as the light changes throughout the day. I'll try to take an exterior pic of our house tomorrow. The landscaping needs a major trim, but the blooming trees out front are at their best. I work from my office Thurs-Sun and from home Mon-Wed (much fewer hours), so can do some work on them in the a.m. and take a neater photo ;) Although, it sounds like it is raining outside at the moment......See MoreNeed help with colors (pics attached)
Comments (22)Squirrel hit it with the "warm" blues and grays. I think F&B Blue Gray could be quite wonderful. F&B in North America is distributed out of Canada...no problem there. What I see is that there are so many warm elements in your home -- granite, floors, wood furniture, etc. -- that you will not have a cold feeling with a blue or gray color on the walls. Instead, you will create a balance between warmer and cooler tones. That balance, and the variety, is pleasing to the human eye physiologically. Using more warm tones on the walls, while harmonious (and safe), also create a certain degree of monotony. At least that's what I believe about color. I am sure others here may disagree. Of the splotches I see, I think they are too light or too dark. You need something more in the middle, like Squirrel's first blue gray. That dark gray you're playing with, while very interesting, would just make the space very dark along with your gorgeous floors and cabs. Too pale a gray and you are back in the icy-I'm-feeling-cold zone! When I look at the blue gray on the wall against the golden color of the granite, it just sings! Blue and yellow are a classic color pair, and with a knocked back red (something earthy), form a perfect triad on the color wheel. That's a way to play it safe without resorting to beige...just use one of the reliable color combos, like the triad. Remember, you will also have plenty of opportunity to change the feeling of things with accessories and art. Red pillows for winter, creamy pale colors for summer, etc. You can change out window treatments seasonally. (Tailored panels in winter, bare windows in summer, for instance.) I think your style and architecture is very energetic and I feel the color scheme can certainly follow. It would be a shame (IMO) to stay with beige......See Morehoussaon
