In India, 'cold weather' is merely a conventional phrase and has come into use through the necessity of having some way to distinguish between weather which will melt a brass door knob and weather which only makes it mushy.

Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.

Hi Rusty, And he has a friendly little boy to launch it - doesn't need to have a friendly, if expensive, group to join and then a metal bar in hand to propel his balls. Who has the better deal, ya figger? Due to their caps, can't tell whether they may be growing ball'd, yet. ole joyful Can't tell whether they may be approaching the age when, if they try to tell a story ... they may get all ball'd up in it. o j

It does look cute doesn’t it:)

I’ve never been up close and personal to one, but I sure would like to now.

Do you have any hands on experiences of them, or just a general fan?

Why do vampire bats drink blood?

Because coffee keeps them awake at night.

maddiemo, I once dealt with a bat that got into the house, successfully releasing it by means of the big sheet used to gently capture it. And have stood on my elevated deck to watch them swooping through the air at dusk. Otherwise I am just a fan of them, and bemoan the difficulties they are experiencing in their survival at this time. Preserve the bats!!

maddiemo's adorable felt fruit bat....I'll have to find the artist. It's very precious.

I used to belong to Bat Conservation International and was allowed to enter the fruit bat (flying foxes) area of the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC during feeding time in order to feed them. Major thrill of my life.

When I was little, the family stayed every summer in one of the Great Camps (Pine Knot) on Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks. It was a common occurrence for a bat to show up in the living quarters, which required Dad or another of the men to snare it with a long poled fishing net in order to carry it outside.

Dad would hold the little things up in his gloved hand so that we could watch him scratch their little heads and under their chins. Then, he would allow them to hang upside down from my sweater until we walked outside. Yes, I love bats.
