Comments (44)Vap, you will love Thomas Affleck! I just found some photos from 2012 - not my best ones, but will go thru my camera later and post as I find some. I have gotten lazy now - its a 3 hour drive, and if I want some ARE roses, I will wait til they have free shipping, but like last nite - I wanted to get a few before their prices changed Feb. 1 so I ordered Sweet Pea, Beverly, F.J. Lindheimer and Nacogcoches [I live 30 minutes from there - and remember seeing this rose and a huge pink growing under that big shed at this old run down motel. I would stop alot and try to identify these roses. I think the big pink was Queen Elizabeth. The yellow, which turned into Nacogdoches, I couldnt figure out unless it was Sunbright, a rose that stays dark yellow]....See MoreYellow Roses in Cold Zones
Comments (41)When I gardened in zone 4/5 Wisconsin I had all sorts of problems getting yellows to survive even WITH protection. When Graham Thomas first came on the market I didn't give it any winter cover and I lost it that first winter. I got anther one but it would not survive without HT-like protection. St. Patrick gave up the ghost after 2 pitiful seasons. Gold Medal barely survived and became a one cane wonder. I placed it in a pot and it did much better (I over wintered it and Sunsprite - also in a pot - in our unheated attached garage). I had better luck overwintering own root yellow minis like Rise n' Shine....See Moremoving roses from a warm zone to a cold zone
Comments (7)The hardiness or lack of hardiness is in the genetics of the rose. This is why I can mail order a rose from a warm weather vendor/propagator & have it grow in my z4 area. As Karolina11 pointed out the wrong root stock, & as seil pointed out moving during the winter months may be the issues that will give you problems in the move. If your roses have the ability to be grown in z5 (Brunswick, ME zone?), you should be able to move them if the noted problems can be avoided. Comments (3)I am trying to combine Canadian, Buck, Austin, and Kordes roses plus a few species. If you look at what I am germinating this year you will get an idea of where I am at in this program. http://home.neo.rr.com/kuska/winter_2004-2005%20hips.htm Other links at my main web pages will take you to previous crops and pictures of seedlings. Each year I distribute open pollinated hips of my prior crosses by announcing them on the rose hybridizer's forum. Good luck, Here is a link that might be useful: link for above...See MoreVaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley
