installing paver patio adjacent to concrete driveway
Comments (3)we had sort of the same type issue. We have a wooden deck on one side of the house, then this horrible dirt strip that wrapped around a patio and sidewalk to the front of the house. So we had to tie into an old concrete patio poured first, a newer brushed sidewalk poured some time later, and a wooden deck. We solved the thing by having new concrete poured over the entire dirt area. Then, a concrete restoration company came and stained all ages of concrete one color, taped it into random stones (you could do bricks or anything), stained it in about 4 colors, pulled up the tape and sealed the entire thing. It looks amazing, and was under $6000 in Southern California. This was about 700 sq. ft. You have a much smaller area, I think. I like the seating wall idea also!...See Morenew concrete patio is a different finish then other concrete
Comments (15)Asking a contractor to match concrete is akin to calling in a baker and asking them to match the wedding cake, that you happen to have a sample of in your freezer from a couple of years ago. While they can get it close enough that everyone will agree that it's white and cake, there are going to be differences that the more discerning palates will undoubtedly notice. In your last picture, it looks to me like the contractor used a coarse broom finish, which is an extremely common finish. How rough it is depends a lot on the broom and the broom operator. There is no way to grind/"sand" this smooth without changing the character to yet another version of concrete that doesn't match your steps. If your contractor thinks there is, I suggest you'll be in for another surprise. (You had best get a sample of the end result before committing to the change.) Myself, I much prefer a ground finish over a broom finish. It's smooth and starts looking like low contrast terrazzo. (BTW, do not use an aggressive diamond blade for grinding or you'll be grinding it a second time in order to remove deep grooves. Grinding with carborundum stones would be all you need for smoothing. Also, keep in mind that it's not a 1-hour job. It would be more like a day of grinding ... so would cost extra.)...See MoreWeird color on concrete driveway
Comments (5)Maybe something was dropped and changed the color of the concrete. Try doing a light pressure wash. Be careful not to get to close as you can also chip your concrete if washed to close....See MoreWhat color concrete edging beside black asphalt driveway?
Comments (2)IMO asphalt has a huge immpact on the environment so I would never use it for a driveway . Even concrete is bad there is no way for water to get to the soil underneath there is a reason you do not see these in Europe they are alot more consciuos of the effect of stuff on the environment I have a nice gravel driveway and parking pad it allows the water to get to the trees and is just all around a better choice and IMO would look a lot better with your house too This is the look you like with a gravel driveway...See Morelafdr
