Discoloration of new concrete patio after staining
Comments (3)This a an excellent post showing how contractors ( and designers) need to invest the time with their clients in managing their clients expectations. It appears that your concrete contractor did not spend the necessary time with you in explaining all the varied nuances of finished concrete and what possibly to expect. There is A LOT to understand about colored concrete, the finishes, how to achieve the finishes, this is why time needs to be spent educating and preparing the homeowner. I don't know your particular situation , whether this was an integral color pour or a shake on micro topping, but it does look like you are getting a lot of efflorescence moving up thru slab. There are a half dozen reasons why this can happen : too much water added to the mix, too much moisture in the sub base, climate temperatures,..... Yes, this is a normal common problem. ... both the communication part and the nature of working with concrete. At this point it is difficult to correct , but if you really hate it there are some steps that can be taken, but realize, the concrete will never be a uniform color....See MoreWhat is the difference btwn Stamped Concrete & Engraved Concrete?
Comments (3)Stamped concreted is finished with a special tool, a stamping tool that looks kinda like a jitterbug. This is done before the concrete is dry. Engraved concrete is done after the concrete is hard, like cut is a saw. Al...See Morenew build concrete patio on a slight slope
Comments (2)To have the forum be most useful, you need to corroborate whatever issues you bring up, with pictures. We need to SEE whatever problems you mention, such as "...where it's about 6' below the slab ..." in order to be able to evaluate what you're asking about. (The picture above does not show this.) When you have an idea, such as "retaining wall/planter box," you need to sketch out a VERY SIMPLE plan that shows us what you're thinking about, in order for us to know if you're on the right trail, or the wrong path. (The plan needs to include only the relevant areas ... not the whole back yard.) The plan and pictures should corroborate each other....See MoreNew concrete patio rising after cracking on joints.
Comments (11)Previously the area had a small concrete pad that had a deck built over the pad. The Deck was sagging when we bought the home and we found that the deck supports sitting on the very end of the original pad had cracked it. The base from the original concrete pad was used and expanded upon which was made up of mainly sand it appeared. It was compacted and poured at 4" allowing proper time to cure and dry. Soil in our area is a lot of clay but the the top soil that is used with grading is a large amount of sand. The general contractor we used is a friend and does not seemed concerned with anything his concrete team did or didn't due and said it is most likely happening now because after the very wet May/June we had, it is now getting really dry and will most likely move back once it is wet again....See Morefunctionthenlook
