Claire- reduce the water. They need to be very dry before you water again. I water when they start looking a bit limp. Since it is 2 years old - it should be a large plant. I think they do not bloom well if they are that old. It is a time to disassemble the plant, cut the wedges with new offshoots for potting and toss old tired overgrown part. If you grow Iris in a garden - you know what I mean. Divide, trash an old center, replant new growth. Irina

the_man_fern - Tish mentioned 2 issues - potbound and too hot. Could be it. I would add - may be the soil is too heavy? If they are not repotted for sometime - the soil deteriorates, it is - yes Tish- potbound - and they become susceptible to rot. You need to repot them - I would say every 6 months and you need to divide them like irises - cut out a new fresh shoot, better if with some roots - reroot it under cover - and toss the rest. Hello Patrick- It is normal if the tips of older leaves dry off. You can take scissors and cu them off trying to preserve tha natural form of the leaf. I think craft stores like Michaels carry different pinking type scissors - if you use these it looks quite natural. Dry air adds to it, but it is normal behavior. If it is young baby leaves you are talking about - it is a different story. So please tell us more. Irina

You are right - it is of a moderate size. When mine eventually developed a large leaf - I was advised to let it hang off the shelf - these guys grow naturally on the cliffs - and these leaves do it. To prevent the pot from topping I loaded the bottom of the pot with gravel. The way you can limit the size of this strep - is to limit the size of the pot. My understanding - in nature - if the seed hatches in a crevice - the roots reach the sides - the plant gets the signal - it is as far as i can go. There is no more soil to support a bigger vegetative growth- let's bloom. I think trimming the leaves will be counterproductive - unless you remove dead edges. Any wound will stimulate the production of growth hormone... Plus it is a rare pleasure to see a well grown plant in its natural form.. guess a topiary is just not my thing... I.
