pantry organization help?!
Comments (9)What types of item are you storing in your pantry? I have a food pantry and a nonfood pantry, both of which are the size of a small coat closet, 24 inches deep by 36 wide. In the food pantry I do not store cereal or crackers - they are in the kitchen, along with packets of mixes, any baking stuff unless it's a refill item. Top shelf in the back right is the extra paper plates, bowls, cups, stuff I don't need everyday. In the back left are bags of chips. Across the entire front is all of my organic flours in plastic storage containers, nuts, berries, oats, stevia, etc. Also along the right side is the extra flour and regular sugar. Main shelf straight in is mostly canned goods, and they are arranged in rows front to back by like item, but then they are placed in a 'U' shape on the shelf putting everything in sight and reachable. The right side has any boxed items like mac and cheese, etc. The middle of the shelf contains 'junk' stuff like snacks, candies, etc. Third shelf front to back left is pet food/supplies, across the rest of the back is extra paper towels. Front middle is more snacks like applesauce packs, pudding, anything for packing lunches. Right and center row middle is all the extras, like honey, vinegar, ketchup, salad dressing, oil. The floor is storage - the whole back is canning jars (not all of them, but a lot) The rest is extra canned goods. I have canned soup, veggies, etc then any bottles of juice or 2 litters of coke. It may sound a bit messy, but it always looks neat and I can always find things. On grocery day I will restock my kitchen from the pantry, rotating as needed and refresh the pantry. You may not be utilizing your space as i do, but at least you have an idea of a deep pantry. I did not pick it, but I have to live with it!! Good luck organizing!...See MorePantry Remodel
Comments (75)Thank you for all the kind words. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to get so excited over something as mundane as a pantry! I still haven't figured out what to do about my light switch. It would be nice to have it turn on as I enter, but really not a big deal. For now, I can manage to flick the switch, but I still might change it at some point. Or not, maybe that will be the one finishing touch that keeps my from being finished ;) Mags, I printed my labels on the computer. They are just your basic Avery labels. Still fairly non-committal, as I could easily remove the label when washing to switch contents. Chalk-board labels are cute, but would drive me batty trying to make them neat. Plus, I wouldn't be able to fulfill my OCD issues using barcodes. Yes, each of my jars are barcoded... I'm nuts, I know. Bpathome, no lip on the door shelves, just the lattice strips. Dove bars would need to go in a container to keep from sliding out. Or I just eat them rather than store them. Or stash them in my nightstand ;) The majority of my jars are Bormioli Fido jars, Greenhaven. I love them because they all use the same size wires, gaskets, and lids. I also love that all but the largest jars are square, so they fit on shelves nicely. The 5L round ones hang over my shelf just a tad. I haven't decided if this is going to irritate me enough to make that bottom shelf deeper. We will see! Bells and Anna, I want to thank you again for posting pictures of your lovely pantries. They were both a huge help, and I referred to them often while trying to get this all figured out, so thank you! Everyone on GWeb is so wonderfully helpful. I don't know what I would do without this site!...See MorePantry closet make-over
Comments (17)Do you have room on the side walls for shallow baskets? We did that on a small pantry: changed the deep shelves to several shallower ones, and one side had a basket rack just wide enough to fit, and it held several single rows of cans perfectly....See MoreUpdate On Our Remodel
Comments (264)Totally hijacking here I have a 40" 8 shaft Toika Eeva countermarche floor loom from Finland. A 27" Louet, Jane, 8 shaft table loom on a stand, from Holland. I just resently brought home 60" counter balance LeClerc, Canadian, floor loom, Mira, with 4 shafts. I have woven lots of family gifts. I wove a wool and mohair blanket double width weaving for my DS2 and DIL2. It came out 100"x70" and fits on a queen bed. I also wove a smaller wool blanket that DD1 uses as work to keep warm in her cold office. I don't have a picture of my DD1 blanket, but i submitted it to the Iowa State Fair and got 2nd place in the blanket division. The blanket below wasn't done in time to submit. But it was done for the wedding. Wedding Blanket, fuzzy mohair: ETA this closeup of the tassels: Wedding Shawl out of silk and merino wool: Closeup of the random tassles in silk and wool. In this pic the tassles still need trimming at the ends. This picture makes me want to just scrunch it up to my face, lol...See Moremsmeow
