Lamb Hass and other trees - how close can I plant it to a house?
Comments (3)ok, i finally took a picture and uploaded it here: http://photos.gardenweb.com/garden/galleries/2010/09/can_i_plant_an_avocado_tree_he.html this is where i want to plant the Lamb Hass, in the far right corner of this terraced section behind my house. I would remove the dwarf lime tree that is there and plant the Lamb Hass so it would be 12 feet from the house but only 2 1/2-3 feet from the walls of the terrace. the back wall is very sturdy, the other two are less sturdy. Is this ok to plant here? If not, what about a semi-dwarf citrus or asian guava? thanks, ari ps: is there an easier way of adding an image? i find i have to post it elsewhere than link to it, which is very clunky considering the internet today. Here is a link that might be useful: picture of planting area...See MoreHow to determine proximity of plant to bush
Comments (20)Robin, I am bowing to the more experienced Clematis growers on this issue. I have never tried it myself. I am curious as to long term results of planting a raised bed around mature trees. That is what I had always heard Jeanne, I was curious to see if anyone had ever had successes or failures after having done this. Nckvilledudes, you are 100% correct that it would have to be a lot of dirt! That is the strangest part about watching these guys add it around the trees, they are going as high as 2 feet from the root base. Crepe Murderers, leave our myrtle alone. Personally, I wouldn't mind giving it a try in my front yard, but not for the clems. I have a few pines that have long legs and full canopies that could use a good dressing up but I would only put some groundcovers or annuals around the base, nothing that would require deep rooting. It wouldn't be a loss for me if the tree didn't survive as the dh is itching to attack it with a chainsaw and this would be my last ditch effort to keep him at bay. If I dress it up he will usually not venture into garden country. This is my effort to save the trees. :O)...See MorePlanting proximity Dicentra spectabilis and hosta
Comments (3)Thanks for your replies. H’mmm…I may have to pot up the bare roots until the hosta emerge in that area. More work, unless I can somehow keep them dormant until I am ready, like putting them down in the cool dark basement. I would expect I’d have an idea what hostas are there in a few weeks. In warmer spots, I see them emerging now, just not in that shady area....See MoreHow close can I plant a new stone fruit tree to a citrus tree?
Comments (1)The apricot is going to shoot up and grow larger than the citrus. The citrus probably will not be bothered by the shade from the apricot much. Not enough to not go ahead and do it anyway. The only thing would be if you will want to use dormant sprays or other preparations on the apricot later that it wouldn't be desirable to get on the citrus....See MorePicoAzores
