The cherry tree, sadly, I have no idea what variety it is. I'm really bummed about that actually. I asked the nursery specifically for a double pink sakura and what they planted was an UNLABLED white single sakura. It's very lovely, but not what I ordered. So I have no idea exactly what variety it is. I'm guessing it'll get about the size of most of the similar prunus varieties, but I just have NO idea. Supposedly they're going to give me a smaller pink sakura as a consolation... so I may have to leave room for that, too. (they still haven't called me back and it's been like a month. :( ) If it helps at all, this is what it looks like when it's blooming: The sun comes up over the hill you see behind the railed fence so shadows would fall (in the morning) from the tree forward and slightly to the left in that photo. At about 2 pm (in the spring) the stone wall to the right shades into my yard a bit shading those foxgloves in the far right of the photo. Does that make sense? It might be an option to put the second pink sakura they are supposedly going to give me in the front yard, where the sun comes up over the house in the morning and the house shades that bit of the front yard most of the day. That might give it more protection from the wind and sun. I'm not sure that the roses I was planning to plant closer to the house will do well even though I chose more shade tolerant ones. The roses don't plant in the back (ie if I can't because there's not enough room with the cherry tree,) I'll plant in the front in a sunny spot (where they wont be shaded by the house)... or I'll save them for a future arbor. My options for planting slightly closer to the cherry tree are: Mary Rose Carding Mill Grandmother's Hat (probably very large, would plant in the back, but not against the wall/fence) Baronne Prevost (train as short climber against fence or wall?) Alchymist (train on back or side fence??) Mme. Berard - (train on back or side fence??)

ok, i finally took a picture and uploaded it here: http://photos.gardenweb.com/garden/galleries/2010/09/can_i_plant_an_avocado_tree_he.html this is where i want to plant the Lamb Hass, in the far right corner of this terraced section behind my house. I would remove the dwarf lime tree that is there and plant the Lamb Hass so it would be 12 feet from the house but only 2 1/2-3 feet from the walls of the terrace. the back wall is very sturdy, the other two are less sturdy. Is this ok to plant here? I do have a privacy fence and also I have two trees very close to my neighbor line. I did not plant them they grew on their own. I think they are Maple or just huge green trees. They are so beautiful like drawn by an artist extending 80-90 feet tall and spreading their branches and roots in my neighbor's yard.I asked the neighbor permission to come to their yard with my ladder and chain saw. They did not mind. I trim as much as I can. It is embarrassing. I asked the Neighbor if it is a bother to them I can remove them and his wife said "No don't I love the trees you don't know how much oxygen they are producing and look how many bird nests in the trees I enjoy the singing of the birds". I planted 4 Apricot trees this year on the same side but left a good 6 feet between the trees and the fence. Even they are dwarf Apricot trees and don't grow that much I wanted to make sure they stay in my property. Some Neighbors are very cynical once I had a neighbor who used to get upset when my cat walks on his grass He moved. I am lucky now I have Good ones.

do you have any idea of the construction of the system ... are there actually old school tiles.. or are we talking a perforated plastic pipe system ... is the pipe fabric covered.. etc .... tiling is one of those nebulous terms that can mean a lot of things ... or are you just relying on what someone else told you??? also .. where are you ... it might matter as to seasonal water management lastly ... as to perfect in line spacing ... sorry.. it sounds boring ... the easy answer is ... get out of your box.. and design a siting.. so the tile is simply not an issue ... a pic of the site.. might get you some ideas ... ken
