What kind of rug and table should I get for my living room?
Need two things here: a rug and a new table for my living room. The area consists of a large beige corner sofa, 300x450cm. The floor area right in front of it is 180x360cm.
There's more space between the sofa and the tv/fireplace but I would like to leave a corridor-like 80cm-wide lane free from rug. I like persian-style rugs and with my budget of less than $1000, the biggest I can find are 240x340. (240 means around 50cm will go under the sofa and 340 means its long side cant go underneath at all. ). What kind of rug do you see here? I'm open to other styles as well, although I'm trying to make it look more eclectic/classy than modern. :/
Also need suggestions for a table!

Comments (3)What are the big red scratch-outs? Furniture you aren't keeping? First step is the couch, second is the rug and third is the paint. Paint color should be based on fabrics and textiles (seating and rug) in the room. It can be custom blended, but the furniture is set in stone. When you shop for the rug, it should be 2-4 feet wider than the sofa. Slip it under the front 1/3 of the sofa and have it extend past the ends by 1-2 feet. You can use painter's tape on the floor to figure out the best size for your sofa and room. I'd replace the dining rug too, so the two are coordinated. Comments (23)yes, I saw that. benjes, I didn't mean to suggest that your comment was for just me. I did suggest she move the photos, I just didn't say 'they don't belong'. I'm on the fence with it. If one doesn't have any worthy art, and the family photos are done in a way that look good, coordinate w/one another and properly sized, then I suppose you could do it. Comments (11)Saxa I don’t think those water fountains goes with our rustic/farm theme. I think they are to contemporary for my taste. Also my three cats would have a field day with them. They love playing in water. Thank you for your suggestion! Much appreciated Daisy and Val as stated in my OP we are going to lower the tv. It is too high as it is. The plan is to remove the mantle and lower it about 5” and then lower the tv. Everyone in our house is in agreement that putting it on the side of the fireplace would be ackward for anyone sitting on the couch in front of the windows. I’m not sure if you’ve looked on the eSaleRugs site, but I found pages of beautiful (real) Persian rugs for under $1000. Most have the option of seeing it in your room, as I did below, so you can play around with sizes, colors, and patterns. These are antiques and semi-antiques, but the rest of the site has new rugs if that doesn’t appeal.

4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoNot everyone's cup of tea, but I think a semi-antique rug, with obvious wear, could also look fantastic in your room. I think older rugs tend to really spark life into a space. If I were to go that route, I'd consider something serene that would keep your neutral color palette in check.
